Which of these knives should I buy?

Based on user's advice, I have narrowed down the selection of knives I will choose from.
They will be used only for SD, apart from normal light-duty cutting. I won't be prying with them or splitting firewood.

Kershaw Tanto Groove

Kershaw Groove

Boker AK101

Blackhawk! Be-Wharned

Kershaw Junkyard Dog II Composite

These are the knives I'm looking at. I left the JYD in my list because it has a strong liner lock and a large, sharp blade. I don't see why it wouldn't be a fine defense knife. If you have any bad points against it, I'd like to hear them because I don't want to buy the JYD II if it is not a good defensive knife.

The Blackhawk! Be-Wharned is also on my list because it is very poky and has a very rough and solid grip. I don't know about it's weak points.

The Boker is on my list because it has the largest blade and a flipper, and is supposedly quite solid. I don't know how well it would conceal.

The Groove and Tanto Groove were also recommended. If I am to get one of these, I'd like to know which blade style you would reccomend. I don't know what the advantages of having a tanto blade would be.

So basically just pick which one you would choose for EDC in the city, primarily for SD. No heavy duty cutting.

Haha We meet again.. Of those I would pick either the Boker ak101 or the Kershaw JYD 2.

It has a very low riding clip. I found a video of the boker and it is now my number 1 choice

Hello again...

I am also tending towards the Boker based solely on good reviews from owners, and based on the larger blade, and thumbstuds WITH flipper.

However, why would you pick the JYDII over the others for SD purposes?
Other users on the site recommended the Tanto over the JYDII....

However they gave no real reasons WHY.
Also, the JYDII is more likely to be available in stores here.

Could somebody give me some reasons why I would not choose the JYDII (Composite, probably) over the Grooves?

Why would I choose the JYD 2 over the others? Just overall blade size and strength. You want what is the more formidable SD knife correct? Why would something smaller, weaker, etc even be a consideration? But that is just my opinion. The tanto groove is the baby brother to the Zero tolerance 0400 (which I own) . With that being said, I am sure they are all good knives but this is just my opinion.

That's what I was thinking.

So....Why did the other user suggest the Tanto Groove over the JYDII, which has a large blade and a flipper? What did they see in the groove? Why did they say it would be better for SD?

Kershaw Tanto Groove

Kershaw Groove

Kershaw Junkyard Dog II Composite

The three above are one I've used. IKf you want stealth, easy to take care of and wont break the bank if lost stolen or confiscated, the Grooves are great. The tanto may be bettter for straight stabs while the drop point version is better, IMHO, for utility; though not a lost for SD. I prefer the drop point Groove of the three mentioned.

The JYD, composite or whatever form, is a stout blade you could use well for SD and utility. The handle is just a little to short for me.

You couldn't lose with either three.

Hope this helps.

Haha well Posters always want to push for there favorite knife or a knife that they like. That's why when you see someone make a " tank folder" or "heavy duty folder" thread there is a million different responses and very few are the coldsteel folders which are probably a lot stronger but they don't like coldsteel so it isn't said. I'm not sure too many posters are looking at things from an unbiased point of view.

I don't like Coldsteel, and that's strange indeed.

I should like it. I have no reason not to like it. I have no experience with their products. Buyers say they like them.

But all the anti-CS stuff I have heard on gun sites has gone into my subconscious, I guess.

The AK-47's blade was too short for my list, though, and the Tri-ad folders were over the price limit.

And I don't like Spydercos because they look awful.

I'm not going to spend tons of money on a knife I will not be happy with.

It's the holes.

Yeah I could respect that. I carry a coldsteel spartan for the same purpose you want a knife for and I am confident that it wouldn't break or fail on any living thing. It has a 4.5" blade that is 4mm thick and 1.5" at it's broadest point.

Cool knife.

It looks sort of khukri-ish.

I was carrying a foot-long Khukri but it printed awfully and I could only do so at night, plus the sharp end of the handle dug into my palms. Ouch.

I want a knife that cannot be said to be "Too weapon-y" because carrying knives is frowned upon here.
So that's why I'm hesitant to get a knife that looks too "evil".

Yeah than a lot of coldsteel's big folders are probably out of the question.

I have the Boker 101, I think it is a lot of knife for $60. Good flipper, rides low in pocket and carries well for a larger folder.

I like the JYD II. it is a nice knife. of all of the knives mentioned, that would be the one i would pick.

It's probably either going to be the Boker or the JYDII.

JYDII: Nice big blade, doesn't look evil, got a strong lock for a liner, got a flipper, not too expensive. Bad pointy clip, no thumbstuds.

Boker: Even larger blade, seems to have a strong liner, got a flipper and thumbstuds and a better clip. Looks more aggressive than the JYDII (bad).

So I have a few questions:

1. Why did some people say the JYDII was not suited to self-defense work?
2. Which has a stronger lock, the Boker or the JYDII?
3. Why would someone choose the Tanto Groove over the normal Groove?

Thanks.

Hey man I think you might be getting a little too wrapped up in all this and it's getting to your head. I think your concerning a little too much with what is said by some posters. But I'll try to answer your questions.

1. I think it's a lot more of an opinion than a conclusion.

2. I don't know but I don't think either would fail in the use you have for them. I have handled a smaller kershaw knife and the liner lock is quite strong and this was a smaller, weaker kershaw than a JYD2 it was a chive.I have two other liner lock knives and both have been stabbed into wood as hard as I can and the lock never failed on them.

3.Probably Because the tanto is pointier

All of them are fine tools, but I would choose the Kershaw Junkyard Dog II Composite.

honestly I like Bokers but my favs are Kershaw (Groove is the only listed one I really favor). I like the Kershaw Rogue, Blur, Speed Bump among others.

Be-Wharned is a cool knife, but mine developed up and down blade play and all i ever did with it was open and close it. I traded it away. Of the ones you have listed, the JYD all the way
