Which of your axes is your favorite?

Which of your axes is your favorite and how did you get your paws on it? I would have to say my norlund, hudson bay style axe is my favorite which acquired from my granddad.

P.S. I really wanted to show a pic of my axe but I can not figure out how to post pictures on here, please help.

My Hudson Bay style, hand forged from an unknown maker with mark "R" on it. Mounted on a 16" handle. I found it on my very first attempt at a local antique store mounted on a very old and very non fitting hammer handle. It was meant to be based on the fact I was looking for that specific design and that is what I found after only one hour of searching. I carry it with me everywhere I go, even to the office.... I just stained the handle so I will update with newer pics...

My current favorite is my FSS Pulaski. Just a good axe. But ask me next week and it might be different.

My Husqvarna Forest Axe, made by Hults Bruks. It does everything I need it to, with gusto.

I have no axe which does everything I need it to do. I couldn't see doing with less than 5 axes. And that would be a sparse set.

Minimum set in no particular order:

Heavy 4-5 pound splitting axe - 35"-36" haft
Bucking/felling axe, 3-4 pounds, 32"-34" haft
Boys axe, 2-2.75 pounds, 26-28" haft
Broad axe - 5 pounds or more, offset haft
Hatchet - choosing only one is ridiculous but this is my 5th pick

Nobody said anything about what axe would you choose to do everything.

The question is Simply "WHICH of your axes IS your FAVORITE?"

Mine happens to be a Hatchet and for the exact reason I stated in my response. English comprehension guys, stay on track....

*snort* En Anglais, s'il vous plait...:p

I have this old, unmarked so-far-as-I-can-tell DB that probably is my current favourite. It's my favourite because I rehafted it and worked the haft exactly the way I wanted it. I'm doing another haft for a Sager DB that might become a favourite.

Friend of mine who collected steam whistles for 40 years always said his favourite was "the next one."

My favorite axe pattern would be a toss up between a Boy's axe and a 2.5 Lb. DB Cruiser. I think I just like the average 28" handle on them. If pressed, it would be a Boy's axe. The poll is an advantage. I guess I would have to include the Hudson Bay pattern on a 28" helve with the Boy's axes. I own quite a few vintage axes in these patterns. It would be very hard to just pick one of each as an overall favorite.

I'm like Peg, I got lots of favorites for many different jobs, but the one that's got my attention right now is a family heirloom Jersey pattern single bit on a nice HH 32" curved handle. I am not really a single bit guy (outside of splitting, I only own a few single bits), but this thing is beautiful and feels wonderful in the hands.

Is it my favorite axe to date? Unanswerable question, but it is what's 'hot right now' in my shop.

In the sixties I bought a Plumb single bit, in a hardware store. It’s the only full size axe I’ve ever owned. I never saw a need for another.

During that decade I gave up on hatchets in the woods. Too dangerous.

Mind you, that doesn’t count rig axes for framing. Construction work is a different animal.

Today it's a 3 1/2lb Plumb rafting axe on a 28" straight handle. It serves double duty with the hardened poll.
Its what's been rattling around in my trucks tool box for a couple months.

I don't know that I have a favourite, but this was my first and basically all I know about maintaining and swinging an axe I have learnt with this one

This one is my favorite - pre-war German hatchet with fantastic handle..

What is the length and head weight on it?

If I have to pick my utmost favorite it is my Keech Timberman. There are so many favorites, though, plus a have a few new Finnish axes that need to be tried.
