The Axis since I don't care for the tanto blade shape. So, I wouldn't even consider the Rift.
The Rift isn’t a tanto.
Rift.
The 531 is smaller than I like for a modern knife...and, handle color aside, I just don't find it appealing (reminds me of an otf auto).
Besides - I have, and like, the Rift.
They called it a reverse Tanto on their site.
That only has to do with what’s going on with the spine. Reverse tantos are completely different than tantos when it comes to the edge. The edge is actually more of a modified sheepsfoot.
As for the poll question. Greatly prefer the Axis as it is slimmer sleeker lighter and all around a better edc knife in my opinion. The Rift is a bigger knife that may appear to be more rugged but I question that as their construction is very similar.
Neither of them really interest me. I owned a rift but wound up selling it.
Like a gentleman's folder.
You`re stuck on an island or in a dressed evening party which one do you choose ?![]()
531
I like a handle that doesn't lock me into a limited grip(s).
I prefer to be able to get my hand / fingers closer to the blade and the Rift has that dambed finger guard. If the guard was further forward . . . then maybe.
The rear portion looks odd as well; looks like I have to put my smallest finger behind it or in front of it. A hook on the very end of the knife is good; keeps me from dropping the knife when held by my side. Oh . . . the 531 has that.
To be fair I haven't handled either knife so what do I know . . . really ?
The 531 does echo one of my favorite do all handles though; the Cold Steel Ti Lite. Super versatile . IMO. (full flat ground of course).
What about a dinner party being thrown on a desert island?
