Which one do you want more? The Laser Strike or SS ESEE-4!?

it depends...if ss means 440C i'm not interested and take the Laser Striker.
But if ss means VG10 or even stuff like 154CPM or S30V...hell yeah, count me in!

440C with rowens heat treat - yummie ...
the 4 is the longest blade I can legally carry without giving a "legal reason"

Don't underestimate great heat treated 440c....

It can, and will suprise you.:D

Probably the SS 4, it would make a good knife for canoe trips and things like that.

Laser Strike isn't doing much for me...

Laser strike for sure. Five inches is a sweet spot for a bush craft knife. I will be checking this knife out as a possible replacement for my six, have to get it in my hand and put it to work for a while cause you never know. The only thing I know for sure is the quality will be excellent so it will be worth having no matter what.

440C is great stuff. Especially from someone as good as Shon Rowen.

can someone explain to me the functional benefits of Stainless over the steel currently being used in the ESEE 4?

Obviously corrosion resistance is the biggest advantage SS has to offer over 1095. Other than that they're both pretty similar in performance. I've had a few BM 440Cs and they may hold an edge a little longer than 1095, but they take a little more time to re-sharpen them. 440C sharpens up a lot quicker than most other stainless steels, but its not quite as quick as 1095.
