Which One for EDC - Buck 110 or 112 and Why?

So your mileage may vary. [emoji12]

I prefer the 110 for my hunting things.

Wife hijacked one of my 112's as her preference. Fortunately I discovered that she grabbed up a minty V1 so I got it swapped out for a different one before it got used.

Where in Texas?

Just get both and try them...

I do have a couple of 110's...an Idaho stamped and a 50th anniversary...neither of which I will be putting to daily use. The 112 looks good as I think I could get by fine with less length in the blade but a grip that's too short would probably be a show stopper.

You can tap on things better with a 110. Not recommend of course, but the bolsters are solid and the 110 would have more umph.

I use and like both models equally. I can say that I have never felt under-knifed with the 112 for my needs on the trail and around the barn.

How would you describe the grip - especially length wise - compared to the 110?

You might like to try a Buck 500. Nice slim package and blade length is about that of the 112. the 500 is in production right now for a while.

The 112 handle is 5/8" shorter. To me, they are both comfortable. There is more freedom of movement and grip options with the 110, but as JD Bear said earlier, the 112 "locks" in better due to the guard.

Well I went ahead and ordered the 112. If I don't like it I suppose it won't be hard to trade it for a 110.

Honestly, I find uses for both. I think you'll end up going back and forward depending on your need. You just can't go wrong with either one. Let us know what you think after your Ranger arrives.

Redhat, I just noticed that you now have exactly 119 posts. Is that a sign? :D

That's funny but strangely enough I've never been interested in the 119. After some reflection and for someone who isn't a collector I've had more than a few Buck knives over the years.

- 311 slim-line trapper - my first knife (from the mid '70's I think)
- Woodsman - my first hunting knife as a kid
- Bucklite - my first lock blade - around '84-'85
- Vanguard -Mid 90's - and still my current hunting knife
- Buck Strider - can't remember when I bought it, probably '08 time frame
- 2 110's listed above
- Hilo or Cutback - can't remember which exactly except I didn't like it
- 3 Vantage - 2 full size and 1 shorty (my current edc)
- 1 minibuck I used to carry on my keychain back in '90-'91

Still have all of them except the Woodsman which I lost on a hunting trip.

Very nice collection of different vintages. Feel free to post photos. I'm down to two 100 Series knives - a 119 and a 105 - which I feel is a good mix of not too large and not too small. I really wasn't into the 119 either until I was subjected to all of the bad influence around here. :D Now it's one of my favorites.

Well, the new 112 arrived today for pick-up and after checking it out for the last hour or so...I have to say I'm undecided. I really like the front bolster and the blade with it's shorter snout. Fit and finish are very good, as expected and the lock-up is wiggle free.

What leaves me undecided is the handle length. I can get all 4 fingers on but it just feels like it would be "better" if it was about 1/2" or so longer. And I know it goes against tradition but I actually like the nylon sheath better than the leather as it has a more flat profile.

The deciding factor though will be when I actually get to use it this weekend...whittling a stick!
