I need your opinons

My daughter is going to the police acadamy in a few days. When she graduates I want to give her a gift. I am going to build a presentation box with 4 knives in it.
I am a spyderco fan .... just so you know....
I already got3 knives for her a D'allara SE. a Rescue SE. a Black Military PE 3 3/4 inch blade. I also got para military but I think I am keeping that one for me...

I was talking to a cop who had the Emerson wave. Boy did he praise that knife. Actually he praised the wave function.

Spyderco has to wave knives the Endura and the Delica.
The Endura is a larger bladed knife. I favor the this one

But what is your opinions ??
Which one do you think I should buy. ??

Thanks gang, jack

I would also go for the Endura. But that is a close call for both knives. I think that a Civilian G-10 ~ C12G would fit that set perfectly. But that's my personal opinion on a nice set like the one you're building.

Good luck choosing.

Since it's for your daughter, how about taking her to a store and letting her handle both an Endura and a Delica first?

The Endura "might" be to large for her.

well its suppose to be a surprise.. So I really dont want to give her any hint of what I am doing.
I just dont know if I should go with the larger knife. or if I should go with this knife at all
I was also thinking about the police model or giving her the other para military I got and not keeping it for myself
Good knife hunting

Seems like with what you've got she's already going to have large knives, so I'd get something smaller like a Delica. Also, have you considered a compact, well laid out SAK? Something like a Soldier.

As a law enforcement officer, she will be entitled to carrying an automatic knife, which can be handy in her line of work (but only after she is sworn in). So you might want to consider some of the excellent ones out there.

For a working folding knife, you might want to consider a rescue style knife such as the Gerber Hinderer Rescue or something with sheepsfoot blade like the Spyderco Atlantic Salt.

If you are thinking about a defensive knife, there is pretty much nothing better than a HideAway knife from FrontSight for someone who carries a firearm for a living.

That's cool, how about putting a picture of a Delica and an Endura in a card with the note that you'll take her on a father and daughter trip to the store to pick which one she likes best!

Whatever you end up doing, giving your daughter a high quality knife to start out her LEO career with makes you a pretty cool dad IMHO!

She actually has lots of real cool knives... I have purchased lots of knives for all three kids over the course of time. one boy is a big Benchmade fan. the other has kershaws and spydercos my daughter has mostly spydercos and a couple of kershaws... I been collecting and buying knives for about 20 or so years now so they been brought up with knives

Since I seem to be giving her all spyderco's I am wondering if I should stick with the theme or maybe get a Emerson wave or a automatic.
Actually I dont really know much about the automatics out there..

I do know spydies though

hey gang, does the wave knife design tear up the pants pocket ? someone mentioned it did ?

It depends on what pants you were wearing I guess. Softer pants...will get eaten up by the wave knob/detent thingy...

Get her:
a delica (basic)
any tiny spydie (lighter task)
a waved delica (for that moment she needs a knife deployed in seconds)
a rare spydie (special collection item for her)

Thats my $0.2. She will surely enjoy anything that is given to her...

If you're intrigued by the Wave, get her an Emerson CQC-10. It's my favorite waved knife, is just about the perfect size, and has a blade that's probably the most useful (for just about any type of task) of all the Emersons.
Plus, it's always good to have an Emerson in your lineup. :)

You've already done a really good job selecting a trio of Spydies for her. Q: What does EVERY cop need? A: The best flashlight money can buy. A quality Surefire, Inova, etc. would complement the blades nicely. Another option would be a good multitool. Either will see much more use than a tactical blade.

As an aside: I would definitely hold off on purchasing an auto. LEOs are not exempt in every locale, and even if the legislature allows it, policy and procedure manual may not.

I agree with Eyegor. I use my flashlight more than anything on my belt. She will NEED a good Surefire and a multitool. An Endura will fit the bill for a good tactical knife, strong and easily replaced if lost. I have beat mine up pretty good. Most importantly, common sense is her best tool. Tell her to be safe.

I know she will get a flashlight but she will have to get her own, might also be issued along with her glock and belt.
I been leaning towards the the Endura wave
but I am still open to suggestions

The grad gift is going to be 4 knives in a presentation box I am going to build aprox 12" by 12 " with little plaque or maybe the policemans prayer something nice

Good knife hunting

I like the multi tool idea too. I 'm going to do some searching around see what might look good.

I carry a leatherman sideclip for several years now. EDC every day.
They dont make it anymore, what a shame.

Would a multi tool with a pouch work ? Can you put pouches on a Belt ?

If possible, find out what the officers are wearing now for duty gear. Perhaps you can ask a patrol officer or someone at the academy. Once you know if it leather, nylon, Accumold, whatever, you can more closely match the pouch to the rest of the duty gear. It usually doesn't have to be exact but it should be pretty close.

PS. Some of the slimmer multi-tools will fit into a single magazine pouch if you can't find a pouch that you like.
