hey i am fairly new to bladeforums and i regret saying that i do not yet own a becker knife. i know that the beckerheads are the elite when it comes to them so i was wondering which would be my best starter. whichever one i get i am going to put micarta handles on. i am having some trouble deciding between the bk2, bk7 and bk9 for a good all around knife for camping skinning and survival needs. whichever one i do get i will post in this thread and a couple others. i am really wanting to try to get beckerhead status myself but am kind of at a loss without one of the knives

In my opinion general camp chores I would go with a 9 It chops and splits extremely well, however I really cant imagine trying to process game with it. The 2 will also chop and split very well and you would be able to do some game processing with it if you wanted. The 2 is an all around great knife and the 9 is just awesome. I don't own a 7 so i cant really speak on that. In my opinion you could get a 14/11 and a 9 and you would have all bases covered for camp chores.

I am sure more guys will chime in and give some great advise.

I think the only becker that would be good for skinning would be one of the smaller ones. I have a 2 and a 10 on the way, and even though I don't hunt much I think the 2 would be too big for skinning. The 2 is awesome, and was my first becker, but I am going to say go with the 7 and a 14.

Only one? Get the BK2. I use the crap out of my BK9 but BK2 is more of an all-arounder in my opinion...

Beckerhead #42

BK9 + smaller knife (BK11?)
I know you said one knife, but I think you would be a lot happier overall with 2 knives for camp duty. BK9 can pretty much do anything in camp, but skinning and some really fine work could be pretty rough.
This is the combo I use most often (any quality smaller knife will do)...

Bk2 if only one. If two, get the 9 and 11. :D

Seriously this is what I would have said if it wasn't allready covered.

The BK 11 is an awesome knife for any small tasks and the BK 9 chops and batons with the best of them.

BK-9 and BK-11 or 14. For the moment. Because you WILL wind up getting all of them. ;)

Welcome to the madness.

I would say get the bk9. Its a beast of a chopper and great all around. the bk2 was too small for me and I didn't like the bk7 all that much. I actually prefer the bk5 over the 7. Great blade shape.

i had already got the madness being just over 15 and already having about a dozen knives. i know thats nt alot but still pretty good thinkin i cant even get a job yet. i have now got becker in my head and i probably will have em all soon

The BK2 is the duct tape of knives. If you have it with you, you can do anything.

My vote goes for the 9.As stated already, with the 9 and a smaller blade you have all your bases covered.

I have the Holy Trinity of Becker....2,9,11. I agree with the 9/11 combo. When the tweeners arrive, It'll be 9, 16, 11. But NOTHING beats a customized BK2. This would be easier to answer if you had a 5 in your question.....

I have the 2, 7, 9, and 11 as well. And think the 2 is your best bet for your first Becker. It will do damn near everything in camp!
