I'm going to get my 1st Spyderco. Not too big and not too expencive to begian with. Any thoughts?

I bought a Delica 4 C11 the other day. Its a really good carry knife.

I also ordered a Navigator II C93

Both can be found for $50-70.

Have several Benchmade knives and a couple Microtech's. Love the Benchmade BM705.

O, cooly the native is @ walmart (supposedly) for around 40$, S30V steel and the blade is a hair over 3 inches.

The Delica 4 is an excellent first Spyderco. I would highly recommend it... but if you're willing to drop $90-95, get the Caly3 instead. I consider it to be among Spyderco's finest.

It would help if you could provide some preferences on any or all of these:
-Price range. What's "expensive" to you? I see you have some Microtechs, most of those are in the higher end of Spydercos
-Blade length or overall length range?
-Lock preferences or specific ones you don't like?
-Blade steels like and/or dislikes?
-Handle materials?
-Type (fixed, folder, balisong, other)?
-What will you be doing (primary purposes)?
-Anything else you might prefer?

There are so many options with knives these days, we may need to narrow it down a little so you don't get overwhelmed.

Delica 4 with wave or without $40-45 (FRN handle, VG10 blade)
Delica 4 ZDP-189 around $70 (FRN handle, ZDP-189 blade)
Caly3 can be found for $85-90 (G10 handle, VG10 blade)
Persian full size (3.5" blade) or mini (3" blade) around $75-90. (black micarta handle, ss bolsters, VG10 blade)

You can't go wrong with a Delica ,Endura or a Native.
All modestly priced & all excellent first choices.
Buy one,i bet it won't be your last!
once you're bitten by the Spydrer......
regards,Rick.

Looking for a 3" folder for everyday carry. Trying to stay in the <$60 range for the 1st one. Whats the diff. between the Native and the Native 3? Delica and the delica 3? Calypso, jr., and the 3.

"Native and the Native 3? Delica and the delica 3? Calypso, jr., and the 3."

The Calypso 3 is G-10 with SS liner and is quite solid. The Calypso Jr. is very light and has FRN scales with no liners. The Delica 3 is like the Calypso Jr. FRN, light, no liners. The Delica 4 is the newest one. It is heavier, less pointy, has nested liners and is a solid knife.

I really don't think the Delica 4 is any better or worse than the Delica 3. I prefer the D-3 since I think the pointy tip is more useful and the light weight makes it easy to carry. I really like both Calypsos but they are very different from each other. More different than the Delicas I think. The D-4 is just an upgraded D-3 but the Calypso 3 is a compleatly different idea than the Calypso JR. You really have to handle them to see what I mean.

I am not a fan of the Native at all. It is all wrong for me. There are many people that think it is one of the best Spydercos for the money. I don't like the handle, the blade grind or the overall feel. If I were to get a knife in that price range, I would go with the Centofante 4 or even the Delica 4.

All that being said, the Calypso 3 is a heck of knife and it is by far and anyway my favorite out of the small 3" folders. It is a class act that you will not think is over priced once you get it in your hands. I would rather have one Calypso 3 than two Natives or two Delicas. It is that good. You should be able to get them for $80-90 if you look around. Maybe less if you find someone selling one in the want ads.

Delica 4 (any flavor/any color)

this will be in your pocket ALL the time. In the dictionary under EDC.. there should be a picture of a Delica.

Even collectors of other knives.. have a Delica clipped in their pocket at this very moment.. as we speak.

And for forty_something buck$ + shipping.. you won't hesitate to use the heck out of this knife.. and it'll be all good.

Go with a Delica, not too big, not too expensive, just what the doctor ordered.
