I was finally able to buy a couple SHSHs over the past few weeks. Both are used, so was thinking of sending one back to the shop to get cleaned up.

Thanks to Jaxx for posting this picture, I think I have found what I want to get done to it.

The BB is in better shape, so I am thinking of keeping it as is, and sending the SHSHII in. Which would you get refinished?

Ahhh, I wondered who ended up with that one (top). Congrats. Fix 'er up.

I thought these knives were meant to used and not made to be pretty so they match your purse.

Send the BB. There are already tons of shshII that are reworked but not many BB.

Good point. And the SHSHII is already beat up a little more anyway, so it could be my main hunting/hiking knife.

In your shoes, I'd send them both in. The BB for DCBB & the new G-10, and the SHSHII for handle cleanup/spa and Comp finish on the INFI (or is it A2?)! ;)

The BB is A2, but I think the SHSHII is Infi. I am not fond of the competition finish, so I'd probably leave the smooth black finish (or what's left of it anyway) alone.

There is just something about the original look that appeals to the collector in me. But that being said if they were mine I would send both and make them a matched set.

As posted above, you don't see many reworked BBSH. That would really make it something special.

I would only send the infi shshii. The birds beak is a2 and might rust if satin.

It has best finish and the old flat coat is extremely durable....I wouldn't touch it. I honestly think answer from Jason was some old hog-fu. You see he said there aren't many BB'S. BY modding yours that would make less and you know Jason has trunk full of old straight handles:D

Just my .02

i agree with trev. If the shsh2 is infi i would have it satined up. Do you know how to test it? It has the infi.looking plunge line but that is not a sure way to tell.

Nothing like that at all Trevor:D

I really think a nice double cut or satin would be just fine for the A2. I've a few a2 blades that hold up quite nice with no signs of rust. And I stand by that too many ShshII get "customized" and not enough Birdsbeaks.

Besides, I have All I need and not looking to add any.......unless its a helluvadeal.

I am going to try to find some cold blue to test to be more sure. But, if I look closely at them both, particularly above the choil, the BB is much smoother and the SHSHII has little circles/dimples all around.

If you are sending both to the shop, they could tell you for sure if the SHSHII is INFI.

... And I agree with KH, Jason has WAY too many old straight handle knives.

Brother, that is not always 100% either cause mostly what you can test is the edge and its usually high polished and that can give a false reading. SOmetimes the thickness will help give you a clue too. How thick or thin is it?

I use lemon juice or vinegar. The edge area to be tested needs the same level of polishing, though. Thats easy enough, take an arkansas stone to a small area of the blade on each, put a little vinegar on each. Let them sit a few minutes and the diff between a2 and infi will be obvious.
