I'll keep this short and sweet, I've made my choice. On belt carrying a small fixed blade that is. I know i may get a couple looks hear and there, especially in the city, but I'm doing it. I've also decided I'd like a more traditional looking (sheeple friendlier) leather pouch sheath. So I've narrowed it down,I think, to these. I love the overall blade shape on the essee jg3. Not really a huge fan of a scandi grind but for some reason think it works well on the trekker. I looking for any reason why I either should or shouldn't get whichever of these two beasts. Also I won't mind an honorable mention on something with similar features in the same price range. Thanks in advance for the help guys.

I think the grind on the JG3 would prove more useful more of the time. I have one en route. Hopefully it'll confirm my theory.

Just thought I'd give an update now that I've received the JG3.

I really like the knife. It's the perfect size for an EDC fixed blade. It comes with a standard leather sheath that will probably need to be replaced by with something a little less conspicuous, but it is a very high quality sheath. The knife itself is very well made and the handle fits my hand perfectly. I have medium sized hands though so it might not be the best choice for larger hand sizes.

If you're looking to EDC a fixed blade you could certainly do a lot worse than this knife.

I recently got a the jg3. It's a fantastic knife. It's a great all around knife. Fits good in the hands, I have medium sized hands and it fits nicely, where my friend has very large hands and he says it's very comfortable in his hands too. I don't normally edc a fixed blade but this one fits nicely in my pocket and you hardly notice it. Works nice on a belt too. You'll be very happy with the jg3!!

I got the JG3 about two weeks ago. Upfront, I love it. I edc'd the Izula 2 IWB for just over a year, and it is a great little fixed blade, but I just wanted something a little...more, but still compact/slim enough to IWB with t-shirt. The JG3 is the perfect balance. I ordered it understanding in my own head, anyway, that it is a 'finish it yourself' type of deal. The knife itself is stonewashed, uncoated 1095. (I've had more problems than most others on this forum when it comes to rust with my Izula 2. Then again, I live a few blocks from Chesapeake Bay and kayak fish with it frequently.) Therefore I immediately forced a patina on the JG3 with mustard and vinegar. I then covered it and will maintain it with FrogLube. The leather sheath is high quality as well, but in my opinion is 'unfinished'. I wet molded it, air dried for 3 days, then Saddle Soap'd it twice in 2 days. It now looks amazing. I had never done any of the above before, so all in all, was very pleased with the outcomes. Last weekend I used it all weekend up on the farm. From fiddling with an old Ford tractor engine, building a bonfire, and just carving wood it is great. Hope this helps.

Wow, looks great! How did you get the mustard pattern so uniform looking? Also does the blade "snap" into the sheath now? Again great job

I used a cotton ball with the mustard, just dabbed it all over until it looked consistent. Then rinsed and soaked in vinegar to darken overall.
"Snap" into the sheath might be a bit strong of a word, but yes, retention is acceptable (I can hold upside down and shake, stays put). And there is a definite 'feel' when the knife is seated properly in the sheath now. That all to say, I like the sheath for farm/weekend carry, but have an Azwelke pancake kydex sheath in the wind, for IWB EDC carry.

Thanks so much for the info, was curious about the sheath because I plan to open carry it and I feel like the leather is a little more sheeple friendly. But still wanted better retention than a pouch.
