Which one would you replace immediately if lost?

Interesting. I am sitting here thinking about what I would replace and it dawned on me that the knife/knives that I would want the most, are the those I don't use much because they are out of production.

Of what's in current production, I would have to pick my Benchmade 551 Grip or my Benchmade 531. No, skip the 551, it would be the 531. No question. It meets more of my needs and can be carried under more conditions than any other knife I own. If funds were not available to replace it, I'd go for a Vic Cadet.

My Alox Farmer first only because it would be the easiest to replace and there's a sterile attachment to it, like one would have towards a well made quality pen. Replaceable even though it's the first thing you grab when you need a dependable pen, you'd miss it if it were lost or stolen but in the end, replaceable just the same.

A custom or midtech? Those would take considerably more thought because of cost or rarity before I could quickly or easily think of replacing them first.

Depends on how you define knife. Easy question for me if multitools count. My Vic Swisstool CS would be reordered before the end of the day... with expedited shipping.

If they don't count it gets a little foggier. I'd like to say something cool like my ZT 0452CF or my Busse SARGE 7, but the truth is it would take a while for me to reorder something expensive. If all my Mora Companions vanished on the other hand, I'd have at least three more coming right away.

Immediately? Probably none of them, I have plenty others that I could carry, for me the ones that mean the most can't be replaced (gift, passed down to me, etc.)

I love these kind of threads, but it took me awhile to sort through the question. It's not that I have so many knives, but trying to figure out which one I would immediately order another of taxed my too small brain more than it should have. I suppose it would be my Spyderco Cricket. Not even in my top 10 "favorite" knives, but it is probably the knife used most in the house. It hangs from the keys/letter holder by the garage and is used by my entire family for opening packages and anything else coming through the door. It's blade shape is perfect for these sorts of tasks and it's small enough for my 10 year old to handle with ease. If it were lost, I think my wife and son might order a replacement even before me. It's also quite handy at opening the boxes containing other knives!

my steelcraft bodega. I wanted a bodega since they were first created. I had to settle for a field grade but it wasn't exactly what I wanted. I was a tool and was really critical of the steelcraft series pricing and wasn't sure about whether I would get one. But when I saw just how faithful the full size is the bodega 2.0 I gave it a shot. It has turned me into a one knife person. I will still buy balis and autos. But I honestly cant see myself buying another folder unless its another begg product.

I thought for a minute but I could find no reason to NOT choose this little beauty. In my opinion the small 21 in CF is the perfect, all purpose carry. This one is overdue for a spa treatment but I hate to be without it. Maybe I'll buy a backup with an Insingo blade...

BM940 (original green aluminum)
Spyderco Para3 (might upgrade to a sprint run)
Native 5 G-10.

My Benchmade Adamas. Admitting that it is absolutely gone I would be on my way to my local Benchmade dealer that day for a new one.
Edit: Also my Spyderco Endura 4 Saber Grind. Love that knife. I would get that immediately at the same dealer as the Benchmade.

Very interesting replies guys. Thanks for responding. Keep 'em coming.

One thing I find interesting is that I thought it would be unusual that my first thought went to something as basic as a SAK. Yet there have been several similar replies.

....However, if I lost my Vic cadet alox, I'd have another one on order by day's end. It's the handiest and most carried knife I own. It offers the blade plus some other tools that see frequent use and still manages to be very slim and lightweight. I have no other knife that can fill that niche.

So which knife would you immediately replace over any of your others if lost?
This is something I have considered in the past. The only knife I would feel that I have to replace immediately (or first opportunity) is a Vic SAK that I carry. As a result, I have a number of spares of precisely the same knife that I normally carry. I have other models as well, but generally just one of them unless their is something special about it for me.

I was working in South America and my Vic Tinker was removed from my hotel room while I was out. (Don't know why I didn't have it in my pocket?) I spent most of an entire day in that city looking for a replacement. Cost was no issue. I just wanted another one as quickly as possible as I depended a great deal on that knife. The Tinker was the very first SAK that I purchased and used.

With other knives, I am not particularly in love with any of them. i like them and find them useful, but if lost, I would likely buy something else to replace it and it would probably be weeks to months before that happened unless I just ran into something I liked. That said, I have a pretty good selection of knives and since I am not enamored with any particular one, I would just grab another one and use that. I do have my favorites however.

I would replace my Leatherman Ps4 Squirt quickly as well. I keep a spare.

If my current EDC (A full custom) were lost, stolen or confiscated, replacing it would be my top priority, assuming my maker would have the spare time ( I think he'd find it)

As far as my productions, I'd use the loss of them as an excuse to try something new. And have done so in the past. (Hence discovering full custom awesomeness)

That said...I really miss my stolen ESEE 5. Been mulling it over....

My Vic Waiter - I have a couple vintage versions in waiting just in case.
I have only lost one in 15 years, but......

best

I understand. I misplaced my Benchmade 551 and started going nuts. I had lots of other knives to choose from but the 551 was my go to knife when I got home from work. I finally found it but, only after I bought another.

I don't have a single knife that, if lost, I would replace with a newly purchased knife. I would just use some other knife that I already own in its place.

to be honest if all my knives disappeared there would be some I would want to replace soon ... but the only one that would eat at me would be the only one I couldn't replace ...

the first pocket knife an old gentleman that was our neighbor gave me when I was boy my first pocket knife ... its just a simple old case and I rarely carry it anymore but there are days it finds its way into my pocket and still puts a smile on my face all the memories ...
