Hey guys,

Which one of theses knives do you think would be best?
A full size kabar with serrations, or a SOG field pup? Theses will be used for batoning to opening cans of chili. Maybe even surgury:eek:

So what do you guys think?

sog might be a little small for batoning, but will probably be better for an all around camp knife.

a large knife like the kabar can be a bit unwieldy when trying to perform fine tasks such as food prep.

hatchet and a leatherman....hatchet will chop leatherman can do anything else including opening cans of chilli wothout damaging the blade....

Along the same lines, blue is far superior to green. :D

I would prefer the SOG over the Ka-Bar solely because the Ka-Bar has serrations. I have found serrations useless for me except when cutting rope. The double guard also gets in the way for me.

The SOG, being AUS 8, would be much less likely to rust than the KA-BAR. Also, I've held both at a dealer and the field pup felt more comfortable, but that's just my opinion. I have, and use frequently when camping, a KA-BAR spear point Impact with D2 and Micarta handle slabs. It is a beautiful, tough, and very usable knife.
