Which pocket clip for small Sebbie?

Thats why they have pocket clips.
If I carry a knife with no clip it will be a smaller traditional.

I've never had a clipped Sebenza come out of my pocket. I don't really like the feel of a knife in the bottom of my pocket, and other things are in my pocket. I don't care for a knife pouch either.

I don't carry traditionals, but I do carry lightweight EDCs. And I'm used to carrying things in the bottom of my pocket (e.g., wallet, cell phone, car keys, comb, etc.). So carrying a lightweight knife in the bottom of my pocket feels perfectly natural to me.

As far as a pouch is concerned, I carry my driver's license, credit cards, and cash in a wallet. I consider my wallet to be a pouch of sorts and it doesn't bother me at all. In fact, I carry some of my slimmer EDCs in the coin compartment of my wallet, so it really does serve as a pouch.

Last but not least, clips make me nervous. I've lost things that had clips on them before. I suppose you could say I don't trust an attachment method which is designed to come undone in order to work properly. I never know when it might develop a mind of its own. ;)

PS: I have a suspicion about pocket clips. I think that most people who use them are motivitated by something other than necessity. Convenience, herd instinct, the "cool" factor, machismo all come to mind. But none of those outweigh the risk of losing a knife . . . at least they don't for me.

I hate having knives in my pocket without a clip. If I go clipless, the knife is likely smaller than 1.5". I can't stand having a knife twisting and moving inside the pocket. Creating the "sideways boner" as tuffthumbz calls it. I do however only use deep carry clips. Never lost a knife, probably never will. Traditional clips on the other hand, I don't really dig em'. I don't like having a chunk of the knife exposed in my pocket. And given I carry my knife in my front pocket, sitting is comfortable with deep carry... knife butt isn't digging into my hip.

I carry most of my knives in my back pocket. I've never experienced a "sideways boner" back there and I hope I never do. :D And it's funny, but I don't ever seem to have a problem with knives twisting and moving inside my pocket. But then I carry my keys in my pocket so I guess I'm sort of used to a little twisting and moving, if you know what I mean. ;)

"Herd instinct, cool factor, or machismo" has nothing to do with why someone would carry a clipped knife.

Yeah... that's a weird connection IMO.
Anyhow, after a month carrying my Small 21, I took the clip off after a couple of alarming pocket ejections via getting caught on things (which can happen to any clipped folder).

A Sebenza is not a knife I feel comfortable having to constantly check and make sure is still on my person, ya know?

You don't say! And just for the record, my earlier comments had to do with simply trying to understand why people would intentionally put their knives in harm's way. So far no one has come up with any better reasons for doing that than the ones I postulated, but I'm certainly willing to keep an open mind. :)

The guy that claims he lost 5 or 6 smells fishy to me. He probably damaged it so took it off. Go with factory clip.

Thanks to all for your suggestions. And Turbo, that is good info. I think I'll talk to them tomorrow and order one. My appreciation to all.

He didn't say he lost them, Locutus. He said they came unclipped. Here are his exact words (from post #12 above):

If I had lost five or six Sebs you would find me at the nearest mental help facility as I'd of surely gone insane with grief....:)

I've had five or six small Sebenzas come out of my pocket while being clipped. Don't know why as that never happened with the larges. The clips are the same size too so who knows? Just bad juju I suppose.

So with smalls I now take off the clip, put it in the leather slip pouch, stick it in my pocket.

Alright:)

That doesn't sound fishy to me. What it sounds like is a cautionary tale. It's not the first such tale I've heard nor will it be the last . . . not even in this thread. (See DagaOculta's post #26 above). It's posts like RiverRat84's and DagaOculta's that convinced me a long time ago not to carry folders clipped to my pocket.

How is convenience a bad thing?

Herd mentality? For carrying a pocket clip on a knife? Really?

I don't know how adding a pocket clip somehow makes it cooler than a knife without one.

Machismo for making the knife more accessible? Nah.

I don't know how people carry stuff in their back pockets, especially a knife. I'd never carry a knife loose in my back pocket, it's uncomfortable. I could imagine the knife not really twisting back there though. I always get sideways boners carrying a knife loose in the front, forget about it. Never lost a knife clipped to my pocket in 10 years, mark my words I never will!

Convenience isn't a bad thing provided it doesn't result in me losing my knife. And I'm sincerely glad you haven't lost a knife clipped to your pocket in 10 years. Clearly, however, others have.

I carry most of my knives in the coin compartment of my wallet and I carry my wallet in my back pocket. Most of the time I'm not even aware I have a knife on me. Occasionally I'll carry my knife in a pouch in my back pocket if it's too big to fit in my wallet. The only time I carry a knife loose is when I put it in my front pocket. And for some reason, I don't seem to have a problem with sideways boners. But then I'm used to carrying my cell phone in my front pocket. That could have something to do with it.

Here's the bottom line. A pocket clip is designed to come undone. I defy anyone to argue with that. The question is, will it only come undone when I want it to? And if not, how much am I willing to gamble if it comes undone when I don't? Admittedly I'm not much of a gambler. So the amount I'm willing to gamble is zero. YMMV.

I once had a special knife that had one blade ground to a blade screwdriver for adjusting my "machines" at work. I carried it loose in my pocket for a few years. One day, it was gone. I've never lost a clipped knife; never even had one come unclipped by accident. But I think that I am more self-assured carrying a large than a small Seb, as the larger knife is heavier inside of my pocket.

I've never had a clipped knife come unclipped by accident either. But like you I've had knives I carried loose come out of my pocket. I've found I have to be more careful with my slipjoints than my clipped knives.
