Which Recon Tanto is better - Aus8 or San Mai III?

I collect tactical and combat fixed blades and I really like tanto's. I want to buy a recon tanto, but am unsure as to which one is better for self defense - Aus8 version, or San Mai III? The reason I ask is because I can't afford both right now and have to choose one.

Can anyone help?:

I own a San Mai II and have never owned any other fixed blade that comes remotely close to the superiority of this gem, there just isn't anything better

use keys for self defense, knife as a cutting tool

Please try to take a key between each finger and hold them tightly, then punch as hard as you can on a piece of wood ten times and see how much it destroy your hand.
