I was fortunate to pick this Madison Barlow in Cocobolo up as a straggler during the last KSF drop. I think it is a 2019 made knife. How can I identify which year the Madison was made?

Thanks for all help, Brian

Good question. I'm not sure either. However, that Black and Tan slip came with the newer release (2019) if I remember correctly. Also, the older Cocobolo was a little darker, more straight grained and less "fancy" looking, for the most part, in my experience. The bar code and/or letters on the sticker may hold some clues too.
Great knife! I wish they had a little heavier pull.

When I get home I may also be able to verify by using the KSF product inventory id:NW14AE003
They changed their inventory codes like underwear and I should be able to tell by what year they were using this style of ID.

Also the long pole was from the recent run, with the originals having a smaller nail nick I believe.

nope, not as easy as your normal GEC
Ah ok thanks, I'm still learning about the ins and outs of GEC. Less than 2 years ago I didn't even know they existed, then I discovered the forum here then I thought they was out of my range. Then I was kindly gifted 2 and boy did that whet my appetite. I've since bought 2 more for myself one for my Dad plus the forum knife when it arrives soon. I really like the look of the Madisons but as of right now they are just a bit beyond my means.

I have two Mammoth handled Madisons from early on (2014?), the clip has a forward placed nail nick on the swedge, the drop point has the long nick as show in the pictures above.
When the slip and coin were produced may be irrelevant to when the knife was made. They could have been put in the bag yesterday......

Thanks for the correction!

So, I checked my records/original invoices when I got home from work. My records show the Madison was run with a drop point in 2013, clip point in 2014, drop in 2015, drop in 2016, two blade in 2016, drop in 2017 and someone had reference them running it again in 2019, but I don't have that in my records. Now in 2013, KSF did not even have an internal inventory number on their packages/invoices, so not then. In 2015, the Willamette's inventory number looked like this NW_Willa Whit_. By June of 2015 the Broadway's inventory looked like the one on your package with NW01FA01, so yours is after June of 2015. Now, if your package is all together original, I think KSF started putting coins in with NW knives late 2015. The Madison was released around Jan of 2015, so I have to think after the 2015's. Further, I've not see the black NW slip, so my guess is 2017 or if they ran them in 2019, then its one of these.

I would like to respectfully disagree with the part about the “less fancy looking” when referring to the first run of Cocobolo Madison Barlows. ;)

Chirp...

I stand corrected! That's a stunner. I did throw in the qualifier "for the most part".:D

Wow! Whoever picked those slabs to make those cover was on their A game. The pile side in particular looks to actually have depth, almost 3D looking. If thats an exception to the norm of that run their an exceptional exception!

Thanks guys. This was the one that GEC used for their website cover picture. (I’d love to find that picture. If anyone knows if there is stash of old GEC website pics, I’d love to find it.)

Like most Cocobolo it really comes alive with sunlight. So most of the time it is much darker and the pattern is not as prominent.
