O.K I am interested in getting a folder in S30V.

How would these compare in strength and all round utility?
Wegner by Blade-Tech..love my Spyderco version, around 98.00 US$ No little about Blade-Tech or the lock system.
Ritter Grip...looks good but the plasticy handles leave me a bit cold 104 US$
Spyderco Para-Military... Love the company and same sort of price range as above.
Non of The Above.... What other choices in this price/size range?

My preference of the above listed knives would be the Paramilitary. The compression lock and dual inlayed steel liners is a marvel in production and design. The lock is VERY strong. You will find the action a bit "gritty: until the knife is broken in, but that will improve with each opening. The blade is flat ground and is easy to keep razor sharp. Easily the best buy in the $100 range.

Paramilitary. It's a bit new, but once the bugs are completely worked out it should be the perfect 3inch knife. It is certainly the strongest AND best cutter (Wegner is probably close at cuting) of those you mentioned. Thats a winning combination. ;)

You'll like the Blade-Tech Wegner even better. He refined the design and the construction is an improvement over the Spyderco version. The Spyderco Wegner was my favorite knife. I fell in love all over again when the Blade-Tech version came out.

Check out the Lone Wolf Tighe Tac. Titanium handles, liners and clip. Nice slim. light knife. www.knifeworks.com has them on special at 119.99. Cheapest all titanium S30V knife that I have seen. Bought one for this reason. However, blade may be a bit too pointy for utility use.

Shootist. The Blade-Tech version of Wegner's design is a lot lighter than the Spyderco. Is it as Strong?

Airyq...great deal but you are right I can't warm up to that blade shape.

MOR and DAL... thanks, the para looks like a tempting design but I do admit a bias for the Wegner. Seems like a big handle for a relatively small blade on the para, but I like the blade shape.

How does a dual nested liner (is this like a double liner lock?) compare to the compression lock on the Para?

Paramilitary has the best tip, and probably the most reliable lock.
Looking at the blade, I don't doubt the Ritter will be the best cutter, overall, and has the strongest lock.
Never cared much for the Wegner, not liking the blade, and don't know much about the BladeTech version.

I carry the Paramilitary daily, and am very happy with it, though the Ritter's blade would probably be better for a lot of the things I cut.
Paramilitary is slim, light, fits my hand, opens easily with that big hole, and has that wonderful tip for getting into stuff. It would be my first choice.

The Blade-tech has dual nested liners. It isn' a double liner lock, but has two steel liners versus only one liner in the Spyderco. They are also nested into the g-10. The Blade-tech Wegner is very strong.

I like the blade shape of the Ritter, but don't know if I want to spend $104 on a plastic handled knife.

I think all three would make a fine knife, but I like the Blade-tech best. Fits my hand like a glove. The blade sahpe is strong and versatile.

Swamp Rat is coming out with a folder soon-ish with an S30V blade. If they get rid of that silly choil, it will replace my AFCK.

Thanks every-one. I live in the middle of no-where so it is impossible for me to stroll to the store and check these out. The closest well equipped city is 12 hours south.

The Chinook looks like good quality but as I live in the NWT and hunt a lot I need a blade that can clean game. The chinook with it's upswept point looks like a cut through the intestines waiting to happen. If it came in a dropped point I'd take a very close look. Heard a rumour about a chinook variant called the Manix that might be outstanding.

My Spyderco Wegner looks like it will be a game cleaning machine and I would love to upgrade to the 30V blade from Blade-Tech but as I already have the ATS 34 version I wouldn't mind looking at something different. Ritters design and to a little lesser degree the Para looks like it might do a passable job.

The Swamprat looks promising but I too find the choil a bit silly.

Leaning towards the Wegner or Para.... would love to more about the lock on the Para. Advantage of the Para is I can buy it from a Canadian distributor. Have to get the Wegner from the USA and hope no moron at Canadian customs decides I am dangerous.

My Paramilitary was defective and had poor fit and finish. It was returned to the dealer.

The S30V RitterGrip is a great knife. The plastic handles don't bother me...I own a Glock too!

If you like the Spyderco Wegner model, you should really consider the Blade-Tech Pro-Hunter. The Pro-Hunter has improved on all the features I loved in my Spyderco version.

You know what you like about the Spyderco model and want a CPM S30V blade. The Pro-Hunter seems like a pretty low risk option for you.

It may be a bit huge, but the Benchmade 630 is great too. With the high grind, it's a good cutter, and the lock is nice and solid. Plus it's very comfortable in the hand. (as well as looking cool)

I can't say I've handled many S30V knives, but I recommend the Camillus Dominator. Mine is pretty much my EDC unless I get a little bored, and I don't even like folders all that much.

One little known possibility missing here is the Benchmade 520A. A bit above any of the others in price (well, except when you start talking Dominators and Skirmishes), but whoooo-eeeee is it a beauty. Dropped point blade, very high, flat grind, aluminum scales over double steel liners.... Ooooh, I'm getting excited just thinking about it. Oh, wait, I've got mine in a SOB belt sheath right now. ;) Can be had at americanheritagesports while supplies last.

I'm a little late to the party but how about the Spyderco Military? Similar in design to the Swamp Rat but available now and for substantially less money (not a knock on the SR-looks like a great design).

Costs a little more, but I chose the Buck 172 (Buck/Mayo). Light, slim, great lock up, and one of the sharpest out of the box edges I have experienced.

If not, I'd choose Bladetech over Spyderco.

Foxhole, that swamp rat folder you pictured looks OK but the handle doesn't look too comfortable to grip. Sharp edges for one thing. Yes, I know it's a prototype but I hope they "smooth" out the handle a little.

I'm with Foxhole. If they'll do away with the choil, the Swamp Rat will be my next edc. With the choil, I have no use for it.
