Which SAK do you like best?

The vic sak Rucksack has been my favorite sak for a while. I recently ordered a sak Outrider and I think I will like it better because it has a few more options on it but it is still not to thick. Which sak do all you sak nuts like and why?

The Vic Super Tinker is my favorite. It seems to have just the right combination of tools for it's size for my needs. I also prefer the Phillips driver in place of the corkscrew. Of course, that would really leave my out in the cold if I had to open an "emergency" bottle of wine.:D

I really appreciate the Soldier. I realize that it isn't packed with a lot of gadgets like some models but it is a good solid no frills SAK that should handle most needs.

I'm a minimalist when it come's to SAK's and I love the Alox handles. I only own two SAK's right now and they are the Victorinox Soldier and the Victorinox Classic. (Well..three really. I have a beat up old Wenger traveler model.) It will be my only one for a while I think. But once I do decide to buy more I would love to get the Farmer, Secretary, Bantam, Electrician, and the whole Sterling Silver line-up of Classics.

UnknownVT's scientist with the custom handles is also cool as hell. UnknownVT, can you tell me where you got that customizing job done? Or did you do it yourself?

Morgoth412, I'm something of a minimalist too as my earlier post in this thread can attest. I've had my eye on the Alox Bantam for a while. I had one of the cheap Bantams but I gave it to a boy at church who collects knives. I really liked the blade and the can opener/screw driver it just seems to be a really good size. Have you checked out one of the Alox models in person?

My fav is the Vic Delux Tinker. It has both scissors and pliers. My brag for the day is my new Vic Timekeeper at a closeout cost of 7.48.

Trane_fan,
Unfortunatly I have not had the chance to handle an Alox Bantam in person. They seem to not be sold in the local SAK places. (i.e. Walmart, Dicks) If someone around here owns one, please chime in. Trane and I would be greatful for the info. I'm curious as to how thin it is compared to the soldier. The pics I have seen online make it seem extremely thin.

My favorite SAK, and the one I carry every day, is the Victorinox SwissChamp XLT (aka CyberTool XL). It is huge, but it does everything. :D

My second choice would be the Victorinox Super Tinker.

And if I wasn't going to carry a single-blade tactical too, I would go for the Victorinox One-Handed Trailmaster.

I'm also a SAK minimalist....

Thanks Kevin for the kind words (how did you know I would look at this thread?  :D - getting way too predictable as a SAKnut)

I had my Scientist customized by KJ Lewis of SC back in 1992/3 - his work was featured in one of the Knives 'XX book edited by Ken Warner. (unforunately he no longer does this work)

The "stag" is actually ivory paper Micarta, jigged/scored/scorched to look like premium stag.

KJ used to just replace the handles using a special aluminum compatible epoxy. However I suggested that he include the usual tools in the handle. After some discussion about some of the subtlties of the in-handle tools - he rose to the challange, and that Scientist pictured was the very first he made with tools in the handle.

Just in case you think tools in the handle is "easy" - try gripping the handles hard just above the toothpick - and try to extract it, without easing up on your grip.... now tell me why it won't come out....... :D

On the Minimalist theme I first carried the

I also like the very slim and elegant

The SAK that I have liked the longest would have to be the Tinker and I still carry one occasionally. In the office I carry either the Compact or Scientist (waiting on a Yeoman). On the weekends I usually carry the Explorer.

I just got a Vic Ranger 'cause it has my four "must have" features... 1) scissors 2) Nail file 3) Corkscew (emergency bottle of wine :D and 4) Saw, along with of course large blade, can opener and bottle opener. I prefer Wenger's actually and an old one I have is my favorite (it has the four "must haves"). Looks like they don't make it anymore though.

Recruit. Has the basic tools that I use the most. I've tried some of the alox models, since the Classic on my keyring has the tweezers that I use almost daily, but they feel like a heavy lump. They're thinner, but felt bigger in the pocket. Tried some of the bigger ones, including the Outrider, which has a great assortment of practical tools, and would be my favorite overall, but anything larger than the Recruit, I can't comfortably carry in a pocket, and for belt carry, I prefer a multi-tool for the extra features, since it also has pliers which I use alot.
If it weren't for constantly needing pliers, I'd go with the Outrider as my "main tool" in a second.
I REALLY like the Outrider.

I carry the Settler everywhere. My favorite multi-tool SAKs are the Electrician and the Harvester.

I'm with Eager on this one.
The Vic Ranger has everything I'd ever need.
I love my Alox Soldier, but to make it perfect it needs a keyring for a Photon light, scissors and the ever popular toothpick and tweezers combo.
