Which Salt For Coast Guardsman?

My nephew recently joined the Coast Guard, and is stationed on a cutter in Florida.

I purchased three Salts for my own use a few months ago, two Salt 1s and a Pacific, all PE in yellow. I'm an avid striper fisherman, fishing in either waders, or as the water warms, shorts and wading shoes.

I discovered something interesting today. I was putting away all my fishing gear for the season, and had completely forgotten about my Salt 1 that had been in my fishing vest all season, constantly subjected to numerous dunking and constant contact with highly corrosive salt water, with no preventive maintenance whatsoever.

I was expecting the worst as I dug it out of my vest, but was pleasantly surprised to see it had weathered all the abuse I had subjected it to without a speck of rust! Amazing to say the least, and a testimony to its much touted resistance to corrosion.

I plan on sending a Salt to my nephew for Christmas, knowing now that it will easily survive its life in the marine environment it will be subjected to on a daily basis by a young "Coastie".

The burning question is which one would be best suited to its anticipated use by a young Coast Guardsman?

Sal - you should use those lines as a customer testimonial!!

Treadwell,
Speaking as someone with regular contact with the USCG, the most popular for them is the Atlantic Salt, SpyderEdge. Either Yellow or Black... color is a tie.

Most of the coasties I know and work with prefer yellow, all prefer Spyderedge.

Had a buddy who worked USCG here in Detroit and took his crappy CRKT with him. Some months later, I bought him an Atlantic Salt Spyderedge (yellow) for his Bday, and tied a nice lanyard on it to go around his wrist. He loves it.

Great gift idea, one that will definitely get used!!

Yellow Atlantic SE. And maybe throw in a black Salt I or Pacific PE if you are feeling extra generous.
