Which Scotch?

I am not a Scotch drinker.

I have never drank Scotch.

Yet, it appears to be the Busse knife owner's cool-aid of choice.

So, if I were to indulge in a bottle - what do I choose?

What says ye?

:rolleyes:Heathen.:)

Go for a lighter Speyside scotch first ... before you start delving into the peaty or iodine flavored single malts. Everybody needs to start somewhere.

Maybe a nice, young Glenlivet to start (12, say).

When you're comfortable with a Speyside (there are many), come back and tell us what you think.:D

I'd follow OP's suggestion all the way. Scotch is an acquired taste, and unfortunately many a palate has been ruined by exposure to cheap, crude Scotch.

That being said...time for me to enjoy one! ;)

My recommendations are either Glenmorangie or The Balvenie Double Wood. Since you are new to scotch I would recommend ⅓ scotch and ⅔ spring/or filtered water and on the rocks. Unfortunately both of these recommendations are expensive to buy by the bottle, so find a good bar which is carrying them to test your taste.

There is a scotch out there for everyone. You have gotten some good suggestions so far. I tend to have to agree with the glenlevit suggestion for the first sampling then move on from there. Dewers 10 would also be a good starting place. Do not confuse this however with the regular dewers; it's a bit on the rough side. And stay the hell away from cutty. Personally, I'm an Irish whiskey and bourbon fan. Used to be a scotch fan but my tastes over ran my pocketbook.

Mmmmm , like liquid gold
