I am about to get a new set of stones.I've always liked DMT but the price of three 8"-10" stones is fairly high.On the other hand I can get a set of Norton oil stones in a rotating base for about what I wanted to spend.

I use DMT on my D2 and CPM3V blades but is it that much better in lower hardness forged blades? What do you guys like best for your forged blades? I will be using this set of stones only on my forged blades.

I pretty much only use King waterstones for all of my hand sharpening. I use 1000, 4000, and 8000 grit mostly, the 1000 is aggressive enough to start with if I am just resharpening an edge with no real damage. If there is damage to sharpen out, I start with a rough oilstone or usually the belt grinder. (Or you could use an "arato" type waterstone.) I find that waterstones remove steel more quickly and uniformly than anything else I have tried.
