Hi all,
The title pretty much says it all. Which of the angles on the sharpmaker (30 or 40) should I use to sharpen my Dragonfly and Tenacious. Actually, the Dragonfly needs it more and I've only had it less than a week. That's a nifty little workhorse!! Anyway, thanks in advance.

Whichever you want, IIRC, most Spydies come 40 inclusive (20 a side).

Personally, I thinned out all my Spydies to about 12-15 a side, mind you I'm doing this freehand.

The Dragonfly is a very nifty folder - I'm looking forward to the new one :D.

I would suggest a 30degree angle with a 40degree microbevel for maximum sharpness and edge retention.

How would I do that? Sharpen it on the 40 first then do the 30? Or vice versa...I don't really understand the microbevel thing, but I'm willing to try it. Could you give me a little more info, please? Thanks.

It is great. I am blown away by it. I just got it on Thursday and have used it to open boxes, open a toy for my niece, open hotdog packages, slice hotdogs, and open envelopes. It's awesome.

When I sharpie mine they come out at a factory standard of 30 degrees. I think it's mentioned in the sharpmaker DVD.

I sharpen most of my knives at 30 degrees. Keen edge with good retention. Microbevel at 40 if you're worried about knocking it against a nail or something. ;)

Start with the coarse rods at 30 degrees, and keep going till you get an edge at 30 degrees, then switch to the fine rods at 40degrees and do 10-20 light passes each side on the flats and remove the burr.

For touchups, you would just do a few alternating swipes at 40degrees on the whites. Once you've touched it up a couple of times and the microbevel is becoming too thick, you would start again with the coarse rods at 30degrees.

Hmm... I've sharpied my Endura 4 and Delica 4 (wave and normal) and most recently my Paramillie S30V - all are at 40 deg inclusive ???)

Admittedly, it's been a while since I've used the Sharpmaker - I mostly use a DMT card, a cheap ceramic rod, and some cardboard.

Thank you so much!!! You all are geniuse!!! I just finished sharpening my Dragonfly 30 first then 40 like suggested and it practically scares the hair off my arm! Thank you again. I appreciate all your help!
