Which side should I etch the Maker's mark on a knife made for a left handed owner?? No joke; I'm serious.

Thanks.

Roger

I have never thought about this,a nd not sure that it matters, but as a righty, holding knife in my hand, I like to be able to turn it so blade faces across body(ricasso at right side of body, tip at left side), edge down(ie a normal knife grip) and be able to see the makers mark

So I guess for a left handed knife, if you're looking down blade, with ricasso closest to you, tip farthest away, the mark should be on right hand side, the opposite of what I like as a righty.

Interseting question

Why not mark both sides?

That's not funny. I just had to do that on one. I'd just mark it the same as always.

Roger,

The opposite side that you usually do.

If the knife is in your Left Hand with the edge pointing down; it should be on the in side.

Got it, I think. If in the left hand and you hold it in front of you with the blade facing you - edge down, you should see the etch. Right - I mean correct(?).

Roger, I`m a lefty it never bothered which side
the mark was on. But if it was me making it for
a southpaw I would put the mark on the right side
Just my $0.02

as far as the logo put it were the customer wants! as far as grinds, if you are making a chisel grind knife you want the flat on the inside of the body for control. most of your tactical type chisel grind knifes are ground so you can see the grind and logo when holding in your right hand. these will tend to roll when cutting because the flat is on the out side.

Thanks to all. It's going on the opposite side as I otherwise would put it. EDIT: but because of that, I'll let the owner have the final say.

I don't do custom orders so all of mine go on the left side of the knife ...and with the tip pointing up, you can read it. This is just my preference, I don't believe there is a "right" way, its up to the maker as far as I am concerned. By the way, I am left handed.

what if you'er showing it to a right hander   :D
I'd put in on the right side when it's on the table who knows it for a south paw.
just more 2 cents to confuse you more :) :) the left side is the norm I think. I've done both way and both sides as you said the customer is the man or gal....:)

I'm a lefty also, and have been doing my logos on the right side, but you rascals have me thinking about doing the left side for fellow leftys. Seems right to me.Pun intended.I have a lefty on my to make list, and I think I'll just reverse it, as mentioned.
