Which side of your folder is the clip screwed to?

It is confusing. If I am understanding correctly you are carrying tip up with the clip on the wrong side of the knife so the spine of the blade is not against the seam of your pants if you are carrying in rfp.

That is potentially dangerous, especially with an axis lock knife. Bm recommends the spine of the blade always be against a seam to prevent accidental opening of the somewhat weak detented axis lock. You should be doing this no matter how you orient you clip, tip up or down, or where you clip your knife.

thx. you are the first one with a reply that makes sense. so what you are saying if the way i carry is tip up with clip on top and the blade pops open its going to drag against my quadricep and if I were to change clip side to carry like most people do ... if the blade opens its going to be against the back seam of my pocket. Now that makes sense and Id be interested in reading the little booket that BM includes to see if they mention that as a safety factor.
im sure the knife has holes on the opposite side for those that carry in their left hand pocket. Thx for that “courteous” reply and insight.

Due to past problems and safety concerns, I clip knives in the tip-up position and on the right ride, which is my dedicated knife pocket.

This puts the spine of the blade against my pocket seam, keeping it shut. Additionally, this puts the knife in a convenient orientation for withdrawing it from the pocket so that it is in a ready-to-use position with minimal adjustment in the hand.

Conveniently, the vast majority of well-made knives are designed for this carry position. Inconveniently for lefties, many knives are not designed to be moved to the mirror position on the left side.

its like the green and brown one except my clip is attached on the “opposite side”. You should “move on” from this thread is what im asking is to hard for you to contemplate as i can see you are getting testy. buh bye
Your descriptions are confusing, you're not using the correct terminology, and at the end of the day what you're doing is dangerous. You're new. Might be a good idea to step back and read more rather than getting testy with longtime knowledgeable members who are trying to help you.

It's not hard your description is confusing..

its also not a green v brown when you carry tip up it's a safe v unsafe.
i said green scales and brown blade and clip was the color of the knife of the two pics he was asking me about. I guess the lighting was bad.

I can't post pics with current membership (I don't think) so visualize this for me . . .
I've also searched this question, but did not find specific answers to the same.
Please link me to a thread that talks of my question if you know of one.

My question is: Whats your preference? Clip on top or clip on bottom?
I have two Osbornes sitting on table in front of me.
One has clip on top and knife opens to left.
The other has clip on bottom and knife also opens to left (they seem to ship this way).

Of course I know its a personal preference, but my Son and I always seem to agree to disagree on which side the clip goes on for the easiest draw to the ready position.

When carrying and clipped to my right pocket (for me) tip up is a given. Son and I agree on that.
Most of my folders have holes on either side for the clip. So when I draw my knife right handed from my right pocket my clips are on top because the blades swing open from the left side and I dont have to fiddle around to flip them over to release the blade which is now in position to flick the thumb stud.

He said he prefers clips on bottom as he does not like the feel of a clip in his palm. This is true, as I noticed each clip is bent with spot to fit your 2nd finger in from index finger which doubles as a tab to pick clip up a little, so it doesn't wear out my dress pants. Jeans, I just push the clip down into the pocket without picking clip up a little first) and that bend is also what holds it to the fabric.
But then as you are drawing knife out of your pocket you have to first flip the knife "over" in order to open it.

The way I've been used to attaching the clips to my pocket is clip on top of knife, start drawing knife from pocket and knife is already on the correct side to flip open either with a spydie hole or a thumb stud etc. The clip on top seems to reside in a space in my clenched hand, so it does not bother me.

I also have a BM 490 Arcane sitting in front of me. If I keep clip on bottom, then as with my other flippers, I have to rotate the knife 180 degrees to reach the assist blade release lever when pulling it from my pocket.

I'm probably doing it all wrong but . . . What say you?
Yes, you’re doing it all wrong. Buh bye. :D

If that's the case, then you carry left-side, tip-up carry. See, isn't that much better and paints a better picture of what you're trying to say. Testy? I'm just trying to "educate" with some knife terminology, sorry that you're sensitive to information.

I prefer to pay for a membership which allows me to post pics rather than trying to use gibberish to describe what is best shown via a picture.

there is helpful and then there is “talking down to me”. I take offense at the latter. i dont care how new I am or how many posts he has.

gibberish? a clip can be screwed on one side or the other of the side where the tip is. Seemed a pretty clear explanation to me. But waada I know “im new here”. and if not a friendly or helpful forum, why would I want to fork over money to support it. I will take a paid membership but in my own time frame. Certainly, if I start selling knives i’d be happy to subscribe.

Who was talking down to you? And what did they say to belittle you?

Look im not getting sucked into back and forth little battles or disagreements. I just asked the question in my original post and thats that.

If you have it tip up on the right side pocket where it opens against the seam -you are fairly safe. Same set up in left pocket with it opening away from seam toward center and you could severely cut your fingers reaching for the knife. So tip up right, tip down left pocket are fairly safe. Tip down and your fingers are safe in both pockets, but right side could stab your leg if it were to open.
in all these scenarios it is clipped to lockside for the right handed opening. If you have it clipped for a lefty you should be able to adjust what I have said accordingly.
Other than safety it is a matter of choice & not all knives give you the choice of tip up or down-only a couple of mine do the others are designated one way or the other usually for the strongest mount of the clip.

Nobody is sucking you into a "battle" Just gave some friendly advice on how to describe your pocket clip orientation without being so confusing that's all. It took two pages of your describing, for us to find out that you carry left-hand tip up in your right pocket. I wasn't the only one confused here. What I'm confused about is why you feel like you have been "talked down" to??? I went back and read through your thread again and couldn't find evidence of such allegation.

Thank you Peter, you and a few others have pointed out to me as to why I was carrying wrong. Thats why I asked the question in the first place. I dont think most people carrying folders know why it should be carried a certain way. I didn’t.

If I am reading this correctly. It is you that carries it right hand tip up (with the clip in your palm when you hold the knife in your right hand). And your son carries it left hand tip up in the right pocket when he is right handed because he doesn't like the clip sticking into his hand. It is your son that is doing it wrong.

1st you can post pictures at any membership level but BF only hosts them for paid memberships and how much hosting you get varies with membership type
2nd Clip Positioning is typically referred to by Left or Right Hand and Tip Up or Down carry

Stop saying the clip is on the bottom, and say that you carry tip up! Your description is confusing with the blade pointing left, pointing right etc. lol So which one of the pics I posted above do you have your clip configured to?

From the start of your post: “Stop saying the clip is on the bottom” ....
It could have been worded differently. This was the part that seemed to me that I was being talked down too. probably as Im new and many think it was a stupid question to ask in the first place. Just my opinion. I can see from other comments that posted in this thread that you were only trying to understand what I was trying to say... sorry and I apologize.

Lord knows I'm not the best at wording my phrases. No offense intended towards you at all, was just trying to understand. I apologize if I come off as "talking down" to you, that wasn't my intent. I'm quite nice compared to some of the yahoos around here! :D
