Hey guys, I decided on getting a 710 with M2 steel, but I'm also considering getting the 705 instead..

How much more useful would the ~1" more of blade be?

The M2 steel is also very appealing.

The small size of the 705 would make everyday carry alot easier and the knife wouldn't be as obtrusive.

If I get the 705 I might regret not getting the bigger blade....and the m2 steel!

I have another question for ya'll too

I'm going to buy a DH Russell #1, but I'd also like a bigger knife that can take a beating and chop, but still be able to sit comfortably on my belt all day. Would the kabar or CS SRK be a good choice? They are also relatively cheap so I wouldn't be afraid to damage them. I can't wait to hear your responses!

IMHO 705 is too small for my hands. Makes it hard to hold and use.

You really should get both the 705 and 710 and switch from time to time.
I did.

I would buy the 710 in M-2 in a heartbeat. But, I like larger folders. That extra ~1" comes in handy when you have to get into tight spots and need the extra reach. It's not that much different to carry than the 705 in the pocket. I can't really tell the difference between the two in my jeans pocket.
As for the heavier chopper. I applaud your candidates.

They are both inexpensive, (relatively speaking), and they will both take a serious beating and come back for more.
I'll have to give my nod to the SRK, however, because of it's heavier blade construction. I was so impressed with the SRK, that years ago I bought two of them. A "factory second" that stays in the trunk of my car and gets the living hell beaten out of it for every little nasty knife chore that I wouldn't want to chance ruining a more expensive and dressier piece on. And, the other SRK, a regular off the shelf piece, which is sitting as a back up in my collection for "just in case" purposes.
I did the same thing with the Cold Steel Master Hunter.
Great knives for the price.
BTW, I have a Kabar too, it just sits in my collection now. As a former Marine, it's a nostalgia piece for me these days.
It's done it's time and job very well and is now in retirement.

A longer blade may not be an advantage, (depends on what you're cutting), but a longer handle probably will be an advantage, unless you are a child or a gnome.

Stop when you get to bone.

The 705 is the only knife that small that I can hold comfortably. The handle is a little thicker than most, so it fills my hand well enough that I don't notice it being short. I thought it would be great for opening letters and such when not wanting to cause a 'sheeple stampede,' but someone just called it a 'big knife' yesterday (to which I replied that he didn't want to see what the clip in my right pocket was attached to (BM730)).

Question #1 can be answered with a question. How much blade do you use every day?

Question #2 has an easy enough answer with the choices that are there. I have both the Ka-Bar Marine Combat knife and the SRK. You can't go wrong with either. If you opt for the SRK, buy a factory second. I did, and can't really see why the factory tossed it onto the discount pile.

You can pretty much flip a coin on those two choices and come out with a winner.

I seem to like smaller folders than many here,I prefer 3 to 3.25 inchs.I have a 705 that I like, carry and use a lot.I own many larger folders because I can but they don't see much use.The only exeption is my large sebenza because...well it's a sebenza, but evan there I like my small sebenza better and use it more often.

I have a BM Leopard with the 3.6 inch blade and that is about as large as I seem lto need on a daily basis. The 705's handle is way too small for my hands. You should try both of them out and see which fits your hands better.

IMO, the SRK is not a very good chopper. For that matter it doesn't cut very well either. The blade is too thick, and the bevel to the edge too short making for a very wide V. For chopping it is not heavy or long enough. On the other hand, it can be pounded through something pretty well, and it is a good knife where extreme abuse is the order of the day, e.g., prying open windows, stabbing through sheet metal, or other chores suitable for a sharpened pry-bar. Price is good too, but I've learned that if I want a thick knife to cut, the blade has to be a couple of inches wide at least to reduce the severity of the bevel, and for serious chopping, at least a 7" blade is required...

The handle on the 705 is too small for my hands, which is why I got a 710.

The blade on the 710 is recurved unlike the blade on the 705, so ease of sharpening might be an issue depending on what you use to sharpen your knives.
