How about some TRADITIONAL knives, people!

Hopefully closer to home.....?

This was the smallest edc that I have made.
Currently, my next customer order will be a slightly larger version of this with a 3.75" long edge.
Should be done in a few weeks. I'm excited for this one, its a fun design.

DW Childress before he retired made cool small fixed blades, he is what got me excited about smaller knives being very practical to use.

The pic below is not a Childress, but one small one in 440C I got from VCM’s site.

OMG, he retired! While good for him bad for me. He always had reasonable impulse buys available. Of which I have accumulated a few.

Now that you mention it, let’s see yours if you get a chance and still have a few. I too would get excited when his knives showed up for some really good prices.

I’m curious what uses people might have for a small fixed blade that a seemingly much more convenient folding knife couldn’t handle?

Unless you are hunting, fishing, or wood carving, what is the purpose?

If it is just to spend time seeing what’s available, then making a purchase, then taking pictures of the knife and discussing it with your internet friends on that old-timey pocket knife forum you waste so much time on - well, those are all perfectly good reasons :D. I’m just wondering what you might actually cut with the thing…

Seemingly.......you just answered your own question.

Yes, a folder is more convenient to carry and will handle most basic cutting chores for my needs, however, I do prefer small fixed blades just because I like them better (blame old Tarzan moves ) but still not sure how it would be perceived or more importantly what is the best way to carry it where it will be unobtrusive and easy access.
I do have a few I can slip into my pocket and it will do fine, but I want to try horizontal carry more. No pocket lint in the gears, point down so it won’t poke me when reached for and if the handle is done right, more comfortable. One that I have really grown to like is my Red Meadow Cowbell. At first I thought it was too small, but now I realize I don’t need a a blade bigger than it to do the same cutting tasks, and the sheath is just right with a clip to stay in the pocket. So the overall package is great.

They're just another type of knife to carry that I happen to like, they may be more convenient to draw / use one handed which is occasionally appreciated but mostly they're just another type of knife that I like.
I'm cutting the same things for the most part and have no specifically different intentions for my small traditional belt knives, but I know I do occasionally run into cutting tasks I'd much rather use my belt knife for than my pocket knife.

Yes it's a variety thing but also in say gardening tasks it's very unpleasant to get a load of earth, grit into a folding knife, real job cleaning it out properly, so then a small fixed is superior. Harvesting cabbage, lettuce etc plus many more dirty tasks.
