hi, I don't know much about knives but I'm scratching around the web trying to get a good pocket knife and this site turned up on google. I'd appreciate any advice.

What I want: small, with a marlin spike/awl, preferably not a clip blade. A working knife; the blade must stay firm. I've been looking at what knifecenter.com has (the scouting, whittlers, 'peanuts'), because I bought a Spyderco rescue knife there for my wife a few years ago and I've been getting nice emails from the ever since. :)

There are some there that might do it, but I don't know the brand names.

Have you taken a look at Victorinox Soldiers?

Thanks, good idea - I hadn't really thought of Victorinox. I can probably get the closest to what I'd like with that one or the Tinker or something.

If you want the most utility, go with a SAK. If you want just a knife, go with a Spyderco Dragonfly, Jester, Spin, etc.

If by "pocket knife" you mean one that you can carry on your pocket as opposed to a traditional slipjoint; I carry a David Boye Dendritic lockback with a marlinspike with me at work every day. It may be a bit larger than what you are looking for but it cuts like the devil, is very easily sharpened and the marlinspike is a very useful tool that is extended easier than any other that is in my collection. The knife WILL NOT RUST, and as a result of the titanium spike you have a prybar with your knife!
My rant is done.
