Which sodbuster

Some time ago I was lucky to snatch a batch of unused Klaas , Solingen (Kissing Kranes) knives from the 1950`s.

Here`s a pic of a third of my Klaas Sodbuster collection. :)
1/2 a dozen (not in pic) will stay in my collection unused, 2 of them will be given to friends as a small gift in the near future and the one with opened blade is my personal user (from time to time) :D

All have wooden scales and carbon steel blades and get an incredible sharp edge :D.

Highly recommended. (Just in case you`re able to find one of them somewhere.)

Well hello FRIEND. Let me know when you need my address so you can send me that small gift in the near future.

Roll that sharp tang edge with a stone a wee bit. I did it on mine and its soooo much better in the pocket.

Possibly the one thing I wish it had would be if the handle had a slight integral guard; not to prevent forward slippage, but to kind of cover the sharp end of the blade tang when it's closed. That tang in the closed position extends out a bit and is sharp. However, that same tang lines up perfectly and solidly with the backspring in the open position, so I really cannot complain at all.

My CASE Jr Sodbuster in Trusharp is a much trusted knife, esp on picnics (good cutter and spreader)

Not long ago got a German Bull in stag, dirtbuster.Same size as the CASE but has some thick scales. Don't know if it's Chinese or not but it's a remarkable knife for the money!

Well I got one! I saw that you guys found them at lowes so I checked and they had them. Got me a black (wanted the yellow but they didn't have one) Case sodbuster Jr. in stainless steel.

I was a little dissapointed in the size (expected a little bigger) but man, it got great fit & finish. Nice stiff back springs, wish my stockman was that stiff. Looks like a really sturdy knife and had a great edge on it.

In general it looks like just a nice, simple, cheap, HARD WORKING, work knife. And, from my first impression, thats exactly what is is. A pure work knife! I think it will make a great knife to carry.

I think my next purchase will me a standard sodbuster.

Thanks for all the help.

Glad you like it Sam. You see the problem? You are already thinking about the next purchase.haha...

Lowes only has the black handle SS Sodbuster Jr. The only way to get the yellow handle CV is a Case dealer. Its not a Lowes package knife. Its also only in the Jr. model. They do still make a black SS in the fullsize. I know Bass Pro had some recently. Enjoy the new soddie!

Hi Peter!
That was kind of "warehouse find" I was offered by a german knifemaker.
I was assured that these have been the very last, Klaas had "laying around". :D
Whole batch I bought was roughly 450 knives! :)
I`m not a dealer but a user and collector. I just couldn`t resist that offer.
39 of them remain in my collection, (7 different knife styles) 1 Soddie is my user and 7 are intended as gifts. Rest are all sold.

With all this talk of Sod Busters, when I was at Lowe's the other night I bought a CASE Jr Sodbuster SS #2137, can't wait to put it to work.:)

This is a few of my Soddies, hope to add one from Kerry soon, HINT,HINT.:)

I would recommend the Queen Sodbuster in D2. This is an awesome cutter in a steel with an edge that lasts a good long time. Disadvantages here are the small size of the knife/blade (sometimes can be an advantage) and the long time required for initial sharpening of the D2. The large Kissing Crane Brown Mule is one of the best values in Sodbusters that I have found. It can seem really large but IMO carries well in the pocket and is actually lighter than a Case medium stockman. The Queen definitely has better fit and finish. The pivot on the Brown Mule can get gritty, at least at times.

I don't know about the Bokers or Case sodbusters. The Case stainless (to me) seems poor as a cutter and can not hold much of an edge for long. Their carbon steel is great. Eye Brand also supposedly makes a good Sodbuster or two. I have never had one of these either.

The Soddies are great. I have 2 Case Sod Buster Jrs, 1 Case Large Sod Buster, 1 German Made Kissing Crane Brown Mule and 2 Rough Riders Soddies (which are liner lock). These knives are built tough even the Rough Riders. Great practical design. Mine have cut the sheathing from a lot of wire. I use them everywhere. In the woods, at work (cutting carpet, wiring, cutting insulation, etc.) My favorites have to be the Case and the Kissing Crane.
