I'm looking for a Spyderco folder to use for hunting/fishing/skinning. I'm not looking for a fixed blade, have a few.

what folder do you recommend?

Maybe a Pacific Salt? Large enough, H1 steel is impervious to corrosion from the animals fluids and water, and in my sharpening experience it takes a very nice and easily maintainable edge.

JD Smith is my new dedicated folder for fishing. Wish I had gotten it early in the season!

The Stretch would be my vote, and it's easy to find since it's a regular production item. Plus it can be had in VG-10, ZDP-189 and in the near future, Super Blue.

Two blades come to mind for skinning: the Gayle Bradley and the Tuff. I have both, and the Tuff is one great looking skinner. It has a huge choil for choking up, and seems like it would have fantastic control. The shape is perfect, the steel is very, very good. If you to hit a bone it will roll instead of chip.

How about a blade with more of a belly, ffg and a sharp point. Would make for easier fish cleaning and a more suitable skinner. Dare I say the Persian or a Chinook?

There are some good picks already but the Persian is a bargain for what it is.

I don't have any experience with this one, but I think the deep belly would work well for skinning:

Stretch for sure. I just recommended this knife to one of my friend's Dad who hunts all the time.

I have Resilience but I don't hunt. Generally speaking any Spydies will do, so I'd suggest you put a criteria first: size, steel (easy touch up vs long lasting for several sessions without touch up).

For real work, grip is important and very individual. If possible go and handle some physically. I found Gayle Bradley much more comfortable than Resilience.

Someone posted his review and hunting photos with Tuff. Not sure in this subforum or Review & Testing subforum.

Having said all that, Endura 4 FFG with VG 10 might be a good start & for more belly, plus better handle retention, Stretch might be the one. I don't own any of these, but looking at the photos only.

I used my Caly 3.5 VG10 to clean a friends deer for him this year (was the only knife I had on me as I hadn't planned on him asking me to do this) and while it would not be my first choice I can safely say it did a lot better than I thought it would.

The Stretch IS the evolution of what once was the original Spyderco Hunter. ;)

I would vote for the Manix 2 light weight translucent model, if only it had better steel. I know you said no FB but the Moran is a scalpel and would do great in your intended role. Out of what's left, I would stay FFG in either S30V or VG10. Lots of options there.
