Which Spyderco are you carrying today?

Trying to see which one I like more. So far it's close.

The flipper action on the Sliverax is better than I was lead to expect (wayyy better detent than my Benchmade Ken Ball 300 SSN flipper). But the finger choil on the Sage 5 is nice if I want to make short precise cuts, and it does carry a little deeper in the pocket. Either one is not likely to let my fingers slide over the sharpened portion of the blade. But the Sage 5 without the flipper carries without bumping knife parts of the back into my J-frame's grips in my RFP as often. The Sliverax flipper doesn't catch on my finger when closing it by depressing on the compression lock and letting the blade fall, like the Amalgam that I tried a while back - this was my first time to try try the Sliverax.

It’s super easy to close one handed so it’s not so bad.
But, it's not just about closing them one handed, although it is easier to get a finger in the way when closing a back lock one-handed. It's also about ease of opening and speed.

I cannot quick flick-open any of my back lock Spyderco knives, because of too much friction on the tang of the blade by the back lock, while all of my compression lock Spyderco knives can be opened lighting fast with a thumb-flick or reverse-flick.

Throwback Thursday with a Spyderco Viele, one of the first nice folders I owned. These had a lot going for them at the time...crazy smooth action, front flippable, and a splined eccentric pivot pin that allows you to adjust the lockup for wear/vertical play🤯
