Which Spyderco for my first?

It's my brother's, actually. If I could go back in time, I'd have a Manix over my PM2.

As an attorney maybe you need a do it all folder that can be gentlemanly too? How about a fluted titanium native?

The evil thought has been planted.

I hate you all.

Another evil thought on a "gentleman's pocket knife" that has been planted is chaparral.

Gayle Bradley 1. It appears in the exchange now and then. A workhorse indeed.

Delica is a good start. Or perhaps the G10 Stretch?

The evil Chaparral.

I picked up this one because I love the fit of my Sage 2 and the ergos on the Chap are more condensed but very similar for me. Have you considered a Native 5? That's where I'm headed next... Similar price range as the Manix. Manix 2 in any flavour is a lot of bang for the buck however.

Iove my frn versions and others prefer the g10. They're just great knives in hand. The native you don't even feel in your pocket but it's palm filling. I do alot of the same stuff scoring Concrete backerboard etc...

Again the pm2 is probably the goat yet I like the two above better.

I think there should be law passed that everyone has to buy a Delica first :)
The Delica has all the attributes that make Spyderco great .
I can almost guarantee that if you buy one it won't be your last Spyderco , sure you will buy bigger , better , flashier more expensive Spydies , but the Delica will fuel the addiction , and is the baseline that all others are judged by .

Sadly... I've been bit.

My LGS is a Spyderco dealer. Went down there today to see what they had in stock. They had a few of them. They had the Police, which was just too darned big and pointy to really appeal to me. They had a Pacific Salt, which I will likely get for my time spent out on the canoe with my kid during the summer. They had the Endura which was kind of tough for me. I liked the blade length, but that sucker was just soooooo long it wouldn't really be a good pocket carry for me.
They had the stainless handled Delica which i LOVED. As far as I can tell, the price was pretty good too. They wanted $84 for it. I was juuuuust about to bite on that one when I asked if they happened to have a Manix and a PM2 for me to try out... well, they didn't have a Manix in stock, but the counter guy carries a Manix and let me examine his. It was love at first hold. It sank into my hand and just molded into my grip as though it had always been there. They quoted me $100 for the model with G10, S30V uncoated blade. They took down my contact info, put in the order and it'll show up in 5-12 days roughly. I can't wait. I'm so excited I might go down and buy that stainless handle Delica just to hold me over. It is a very sleek, very simply elegant design.

There was another guy at the counter who tapped me on the shoulder. I turned around and he pulls a PM2 out of his pocket. He handed it to me and told me to check it out.... After I get the Delica 4SS and Manix 2, the PM2 is next on my list. That felt so nice in the hand! What a practical size.

I knew I never should have joined BFC. You guys suck.

Those are very nice!

I can't help but wonder why there isn't a G10 scaled Delica. I imagine a Delica with multi-color layered G10, and fluted like the fluted titanium Native, would sell like crazy. the flutes would really show off the color layering, and add some serious grip to the scales.
I'd also love a Delica with aluminum scales. Lighter than steel, nicer than FRN, could be anodized all sorts of wacky colors to match the FRN color availability... i mean seriously, it's a no brainer to me.

Been there!!!! The Manix is what sent me down the river of no return as well. Waiting is hard, but I find that it gives me something to daydream about for a few days. Just finished sharpening and stropping up my Manix2....G10...uncoated. Even lubed the pivot. Flicking it around right now.

^^^^^^
Well, Bilbo, in all fairness, you did warn me.

Fair warning...my Manix 2 was my Spyderco gateway drug. You'll inevitably own everything posted in this thread plus some.

Flick it an extra time for me.

If I don't straight up die from anticipation, I'll make sure to post pics when it gets in.

Heads up there is a titanium Delica with a Damascus blade out there.

Just when i thought I couldn't hate you guys any more, you have to do this to me...

Way to kick a guy while he's already falling down the spyder hole.:)

Fair warning, I was asking for a recommendation recently, and now I have 6.

The PM2 is hard to beat. I prefer it to the manix.

Welcome to the world of Spyderco OP. If you want to take your enjoyment of this hobby to the next level then your next purchase should be a Spyderco Sharpmaker! It will be the best "knife money" you've ever spent.
