Ok, so I have to make a decision about which spyderco I want.

heres my shortlist

Spyderco Delica G10
Spyderco Sage 1 CF
Spyderco Sage 2 Ti
Spyderco Caly 3 CF

They are all around the same price at 150 AUD for me, except the Sage 2 Ti which is 215 AUD.

So which one should I choose? This is for EDC and such, But I would prefer the "stronger knife", which I know is ahrd, as they all seem to be very strong.

But is the Sage 2 Framelock any better than the liner lock of the Sage 1?
and is the lock back of the delica and Caly and better than the Sage?

And steel doesn't really matter here I feel, as I'm getting either CPM S30V or VG10, which are good steels from many reviews and opinions. Don't want any other choices, and don't want ZDP, as Im a newbie to sharpening.

So please just put in your thoughts, and if you have comparison pics, they will be greatly appreciated

Thanks everyone

JCK

do you find it to be much stronger than the sage 1? It appears to be on the website, just not as many reviews on it as the sage 1? just out of question, how thick is the framelock?

thanks for the input mossyhorn

I don't think you'd be disappointed with any of them. I'd lean owards either of the sages or the caly though myself.

I own all of these and like all of these. Although I LOVE my Sage 2.

If you don't want ZDP Caly 3 CF should be crossed off the list and between the Delica and Sage...Sage uses far more premium materials as to the FRN Delica. If the sage 1 and Delica are around the same price, getting the Sage is a no brainer. If you have the extra money to spend I would go for the Sage 2. Frame locks are supposed to be stronger and the Sage 2 is a tank of a knife for the size. The slabs of Ti on the Sage 2 are much thicker than that of the liner lock on the Sage 1. Neither would fail under regular use [not abuse].

Thanks zippo, I was actually watching your review of the sage 2, really helpful, so kudos to you.
You also wouldn't happen to have the FRN delica 4 would you, could you maybe snap a few pictures side by side for a size comparison, I think it was in your video, I can't remember. But I am only able to handle the delica, and not the sage, but that doesn't matter too much.

EDIT: can I also ask, how do you find the Ti handles, are they too smooth, or whats yoru experience with them.

Sage 2. I can't keep it out of my pocket. i will carry something else for a day and say, man i miss my sage 2. i think they read my mind about what i want in an EDC knife when they designed it.

I really like CF, so I'd go with the Caly.
I'd skip the delica, because I prefer flat ground blades.

The G-10 version of the Delica has a flat ground blade, unlike the FRN ones.

I LOVE my Sage 2, but the G-10 Delica is an equally good knife for less cost. There's very little about the Delica design that has room for improvement. I'm not a big fan of the Caly (handle shape, ZDP, pins instead of screws) and I wouldn't even consider the Sage 1 because of the liner lock. That leaves the Delica as the best bargain of the models you mention.

Stuff to consider:
1) Tip up or down? Only the Delica is drilled for tip-down.
2) Clip design. The Delica doesn't have the awesome (IMO) wire clip the others have.
3) Choil. The Delica doesn't have a distinct choil like the Sage or Caly. Do you like using a choil?

They just came out with the FRN FFG Delica's and Endura's if the blade grind is a consideration. I have all of the knives you listed except for the Sage II. I have been eyeing it up but being a lefty I'm wondering how easy it will be to carry. Looks like a really tough knife.

As I said, I don't have a Sage 1 but I have the others. Here they are together. The Delica has the clip moved for left-hand carry while the others haven't been flipped. Note that the Delica is the only one drilled for tip down carry if that matters to you.

I have a G10 Caly 3 and a Sage 2. Both are excellent, but the Sage 2 is more heavily constructed, and its frame flexes less, so you might prefer it. Although the Caly 3 is lightly constructed, it's entirely adequate for its intended purpose.

The Sage 2 fits my hand a bit better, its frame flexes less, the smooth scales don't abrade my pockets, and I prefer the way a frame lock operates, so I prefer the Sage 2.

SageII, feels much better in my hand, but I still carry my CF Caly3 sometimes.

I think the CF Caly3 is one of the best looking folders I've seen. And the SageII is one of the best feeling folders I have ever held.

Spyderco Delica G10
Spyderco Sage 1 CF
Spyderco Sage 2 Ti
Spyderco Caly 3 CF
I'd go for the Delica, but that's probably my favorite Spydie (I already have several of them). Honestly, though, they are all great knives and you can't really go wrong with any of them. Just pick the one that you think looks the best!
