I have ordered a Military from Top of Texas (thanks Chris and Marti. I would like some opinions on another Spyderco purchase. I would like a cheaper knife that I can carry while working in the yard, exercising, and other stuff. I want a knife that is a good one, but I wont cry if I lose it or break it. I have thought about the Native, or Endura, or Goddard lightweight. I want kind of a general purpose knife.

I have had the new model Endura and Delica since mid-January. They have held up very well and I like their metal clips as I have had problems with the plastic clips. The ATS-55 bldes keep an edge very well and, when in need, sharpen very nicely.

All good knives. Another affordable Spyderco you may want to consider is the Jess Horn. Take care.

Shootist16:

I have an Endura and I like it a lot. It's the knife I'm most likely to have on my person at any given time. Think I might like the Goddard Lightweight even better, but at the present time it is only available with a partially serrated edge, which I tend to dislike. As for the Native, this is one I've been hankering for as well. I've never handled one in person, but I think it looks like a good knife for a variety of purposes. I'm waiting for the special edition BladeForums Native.

Any of these knives should serve you will.

For general wear around the house and yard i usually carry a delica. I find the size more convenient than the endura which I carry when engaging in some outdoor activity. For going to work I carry the unobtrusive dragonfly. all are great knives and you should choose whichever one "fits" best.

I go with a pair. Either the Endura or Delica in a plain edge and the Rescue or Rescue II serrated---one for each pocket.

I have a Zytel Native and love it. After getting this knife, I understand what people say when stating a particular knife feels like an extension of your hand. At first, I was a little skeptical about the index finger choil, but bought it because of the size. Now, I'm totally hooked on the choil.

The Native is small enough that I don't feel self conscious when I whip it out to use it, but large enough to be useful. The angle that the handle forms with the blade makes it almost perfect for any cutting task I've found so far. I like the positioning of the Hole as well. Without the hump, the profile of the knife is narrow enough that if I feel self-conscious about the clip being over the edge of the pocket (it is the bright clip, not black; looks GREAT, but can attract attention), I can just slip it down inside the (jean) pocket and it disappears from sight and thought.

I like the Native so much, in fact, if Spyderco made another variation with a larger blade, and maybe the Rolling Lock, I think the Native style would be enough knife to take care of all my needs. Although not my wants (I'd have to stop buying then, and we can't let that happen)

. I'm just looking forward to the BF Native when it comes out. I've also heard rumors that the standard Native may be coming out with a new steel as well...

Finally, as a testament to this knife... I have a couple of BM 710 Axis locks. My opinion is, the axis lock is the best design for a knife lock on the market today, although I haven't tried a rolling lock. But, of the two designs (BM 710 or Native), I like the Native better for just using, for the feel of the knife. Every time I pull that Native out to use it, before putting it back in my pocket, I look at it and think, "Man, I like this knife."

O_D - Thanx for the kind words. A little added "sales pitch". The Native lock is averaging over 500 inch/lbs of lock strength. Good enough for our "Safe for Hard duty" lock classification. Stronger than any litewight of it's size, although it is thicker than most knives in its blade size. (We do have a design for a 4" vberwsion with a RL)
