Which Spydie eats cardboard?

I'm moving across country this summer, and when I land I want a knife that will assassinate boxes, tie-downs, rope, bubblewrap, packaging tape, plastic, and so on. I'm thinking the Manix2 will be perfect, but the price is about the most I'd want to spend. While I generally prefer smaller plain edge Spydies (EDC Caly 3 and Delica), I know I'm going to want something bigger, beefier, and with a fully serrated edge. I don't think this will be my EDC, but it should be a utility knife that I would use for projects and moving and so on.

As far as other preferences go: the Endura doesn't do much for me since it is really a glorified Delica (nothing wrong with that, but if I'm going to throw down some $$$ I might as well get something categorically different). The Millie is too expensive, and probably too big for my preferences. The Manix just seems to hit all the right notes for me: hella good looking, easy open even with gloves, made in Golden, excellent lanyard (and trust me, I'm gonna need a lanyard), not insanely huge but still hefty and so on. I'm easy when it comes to steel and country of origin. If Spyderco makes it, I'm happy to sign on.

So finally to the questions: Is there any good reason why I shouldn't get the Manix2? Is there anything I should be thinking of instead of the Manix2? I was scoping the Tenacious, but the ergos don't look as good (that makes sense given the price difference etc). By that line of thinking, is there anything in the Byrd line that would be fully serrated and heftier than a Delica? I am ignorant when it comes to Byrd gear.

Thanks guys! I promise I'll post pictures when whatever I get lands. :D

i have found for cutting up boxes a wharncliffe or sheapfoot type blade works best.

maybe a salt or rescue type?

but i cant think of a good reason not to get the manix 2.

Spyderco's sheepsfoot blades usually tend to have hollow grinds.

I would go for a full flat grind like the Military, mine eats it up.

If you absolutely have to get through tons of Cardboard, zip ties, thick rope and maybe some wood, there's absolutely no question that it'll be a CPM-M4 steel knife. The M4 Blade steel is excellent as reviewed by the few who could stand the looks of "Gayle Bradley." I personally have no hatred for the design, there are far more peculiar looking Spydies than the GB

For the amount you're willing to spend, the Manix2 154CM is also a good choice, but you already know it won't go through as many truckloads of Cardboard before you need sharpening again.

For around $70(Manix price point), you can acquire a Native S30V($50) or a Sage I if you're willing to spend about $85(Look on eBay)

Try a Hawkbill style blade with serrations. I cut cardboard pretty much all the time and
nothing beats it in my opinion.

ZDP-189 E4 with the SE. The Endura is not a "glorified Delica;" it's a bigger Delica.

I feel bad for the people who come here looking for just one knife! In honesty, if you're going to be cutting a bunch of cardboard, you should use a box cutter. Most knives get pretty abused after going through that much cardboard. But if you must have one I'd reccomend a ffg like 5.56 said so perhaps a endura ffg or a millie if you're willng to spend the coin. Again, i'd recommend a box cutter.

The hump on that military looks strange, has it been ground down?

For a user I'd go with a full SE FFG Delica or Endura.
I love Spyderco's serrations on VG10. They won't break the bank either.

What are you talking about? 95% of what I cut is cardboard, and my knife hasn't suffered any "abuse."

Cut some cardboard, sharpen her up. What's the big deal?

For a user I'd go with a full SE FFG Delica or Endura.

Do the FFG models exist in SE?

Do they make a SE FFG E4 or D4?

All of the FFG E4/D4 that I have seen are PE

EDIT: THG beat me to it----The Military line has FFG SE though

No unfortunately they don't come in SE.

He is talking about a large amount of cardboard I imagine. Cardboard is full of clay, silica, dirt, etc. This causes chipping and fast dulling. What I meant to say is that the edge gets abused pretty quickly on most knives which is why I suggested a box cutter. I understand using a pocket knife for cutting cardboard I just don't see the reason to buy a knife like that for the sole purpose of slicing cardboard when there are tools specifically made for that, but hey to each his own.

5.56,

You know, I'm not certain of it. I just thought they did make both PE and SE.
I'll have to look into that. I'd be a little surprised if they didn't.

Might I suggest these as well

Full flat grind SE Para's, one of my favorites.
