Which Spydie eats cardboard?

I just don't see the reason to buy a knife like that for the sole purpose of slicing cardboard when there are tools specifically made for that, but hey to each his own.

I'm with you all the way on box cutters if that's the only task I had in mind. I didn't say anything about that being the sole purpose to get a Spydie though. It's going to be used for a lot more than cutting boxes on one move or why the hell would I shell out the $$$. The move's an excuse to get a new toy/tool.

Try a Hawkbill style blade with serrations. I cut cardboard pretty much all the time and
nothing beats it in my opinion.

Sean

I would recommend a hawkbill blade as well. Perhaps the Tasman Salt?

To be honest, I think a Manix 2 will do fine as well. The CBBL and addition of liners makes it more "heavy-duty".

This sure is a tough decision. :p

I think I've settled on a Police fully serrated for my serrated knife. I want to like the Military, but I just don't like the way the blade looks as much. Then, I want to like the G10 Police3 because of the longer blade, but again it's those darn looks.

Sorry I don't have anything more useful to add. I kind of just wanted to post because I have a Lamy 2000 fountain pen (though, it leaks, I need to send it back to Lamy).

:Dplus 1 on using a knife to cut boxes and cardboard. it's way fun when you use your EDC. box cutters may do the job better but it's boring that way. I take out my endura anytime that I can use it even on butter to put on toast. and I have a butter knife beside me. also cutting open boxes may be the only reason you have to give your wife when she asks what you need a knife for. :D

If you absolutely have to get through tons of Cardboard, zip ties, thick rope and maybe some wood, there's absolutely no question that it'll be a CPM-M4 steel knife. The M4 Blade steel is excellent as reviewed by the few who could stand the looks of "Gayle Bradley."

That looks better...LOL!!!
The GB will eat anything you put in front of it, literally. I love the CF looks, the shiny steel liners, the heft that screams "I'm an a$$ kicker". I think it was Sal that once said something like "I'd rather you use the knifes because they cut really well, rather than keep them in a box because they look pretty" I might be off on the quote, but that was the spirit of the comment.

My two cents.

Brown cardboard will be a big edge duller.

Two solution:

Go with a solid Byrd and know how to refresh the edge easily.

or
go with a Gayle Bradley M4 or a ZDP189 blade stretch, a second hand Dodo... Whatever...

I will suggest the Byrd and good sharpening technics.
Cardboard is a plague... :-)

The Millie or Manix 2 in S90V, next choice would be the bradley in CPM M4.

You need to keep those large, unsocialized, evil vanadium carbides working hard with little sleep or they will attempt something disruptive or unnatural. Don't trust them with too much free time.

They may be evil but they laugh at cardboard. Hah! Hah! Hah!

Just make sure the big copper staples are not in the way.

When not in use I keep them locked away, inside a pentagram, surrounded by a ring of salt. That's how dangerous vanadium carbides are. :'

Why stop at one? :) Tasman for the rope, zipties, packing tape, etc., and another knife for the boxes.

Or maybe a Chokwe... that fine tip looks like it'd be great for popping zipties.

I have a box cutter in the kitchen drawer that eats cardboard. When the single edge razor blade gets dull, out comes another blade from a carton.
Some people use cardboard as a strop, since it is abrasive. Hidden staples may not do wonders for your nice knife.
Box cutters work better than any folder. When moving and cutting up boxes or cord, there is no time to bother with sharpening.

If you want an excuse to buy another knife - get two, a folder and a box cutter.

Civilian?

I agree that a box cutter would be my first choice, but given the constraints posed, I think a really big hawkbill would be best. Reason being that larger blades have more cutting edge to use. I rarely see it mentioned, but this is the #1 reason I carry large blades...because I have a lot of blade to get dull before I gotta resharpen.

Even if you do not go Civilian, I think I would also go SE for this one because even when totally dull, it will still saw through cardboard.
