Hey guys,

I'm going to buy into the Mora hype and get one (also jumping on the Opinel train too.. getting a No.9) From these three choices, which Mora is the best choice for anything from kitchen use, to camping/bushcraft use? I'm ordering both knives from www.bensbackwoods.com (heard it was a reputable dealer?) and these will be my first Opinel and Mora. Thanks for your help.

Mora of Sweden Carbon Knife 911

My The one I like the most right now is the Craftsman Triflex. Is there a difference between "Frost's Mora" and "Mora of Sweden"?

Of those three, the Clipper is more my thing, but at $12, just pick the one you like the looks of and don't worry about it.

Mora of Sweden is what the company is called now, after the merger of Frosts Mora and KJ Eriksson Mora. Of the three I only have the clipper, but I have used a mora with the handle of a craftsmen model. At that price, get any, you'll love it so much you'll get the others for curiosities sake, seeing as they're so cheap. Pick the one you think looks the best.

I would recommend the clipper as your first. I have a carbon version for utility and stainless version for foods.

I just got a 137 with a laminated blade as well, can't wait to try it. Unfortunately the wooden handle came rather rough so I decided to sand/stain/clear coat it.

I'd opt for the 780 Triflex. I prefer the hard molded handle over the soft grip of the Clippers.

I have the Triflex and the 911. I like them both. The 911 has my favorite sheath of all the Moras. The handle on the Triflex gives the feeling you can really do some tough cutting with it... it's big and secure in my hand. I doubt you'd be disappointed with either of them. I don't have the Carbon Clipper but it seems to have always been a favorite of a lot of the Mora fans here.

But if I was going to have just one Mora, I think it would be the Craftline All-around. Great handle, sheath, and nicely finished blade, for about two bucks more than the other Moras.

I agree, if you can deal with stainless this has the best features, plus it has a three quarter length tang and a slightly thicker blade.

Really? I thought it had the same tang as the stock Clipper. Where did you get this information? I have an allaround, and I would be tickled to death to know it had a 3/4 length tang. FWIW, I would also recommend the Allaround as your starting Mora. It's like a souped-up Clipper, which is my favorite Mora. I also have a 911 for shop use, and had a while back a 780. I'd make the 911 my second choice. Never much cared for the hard plastic handles on Moras.

+1 for backwoods Ben's. Great guy - when I was building my bucksaws - he sent me bolts to use for free and gave me advice.

His bucksaw, by the way, is a GREAT deal - a LOT for the price.

I got the old style number 1 with the laminated blade, and it's been a great knife. I prefer the older wood handle knife as the tang goes all the way through the handle. The laminated blade cuts lke a laser as well, and holds a great edge.

I got a really strong magnet, my clipper, allround, and M2K and played around for a while. If the allround doesnt have the same length tang as the M2K i'd be REALLY surprised. If you can find a strong enough magnet, give it a shot. I'd be glad to know what others think.

Out of your choices, I'd say go with the clipper. It's a great knife. I don't have experience with the 911, but it looks pretty good. The Craftsman feels a little awkward in my hand, and the sheath it comes with is horrendous- dangerous and unusable IMO. I prefer the plain carbon to the triflex blades- the outer portion of the triflex blades is soft, and can be a pain to spark a firesteel with.

My personal favorite is the 510. It's a great little knife.

I have all 3, and like the 911 best, mainly for the ergonomics. It's very comfortable to hold. I haven't found the triflex steel to hold an edge that much better than the others, although my testing has been somewhat limited. The craftsman, while sturdy, is just a little too wide for me. YMMV.

At those prices, get all 3!

Of the 3, the Clipper. I have the 711 and M2K from Eriksson and the 760 from Frost. Like them all but the M2K and 711 carbon are what get carried and used the most.

Why not get all of them? They aren't expensive, unless your income isn't too great in this economy. (I can understand that, as mine isn't)

If that is the case, the Clipper is pretty cool.

I agree with you guys.. at the price I'll probly get a lot of moras if my first one's a hit. Thanks so far guys, keep the suggestions coming please.

P.S.- what's the difference in the 711 and 911? seems to be the same sheath, blade length, blade thickness, and handle.
