Which Starting Mora (3 choices)

I agree with you guys.. at the price I'll probly get a lot of moras if my first one's a hit. Thanks so far guys, keep the suggestions coming please.

P.S.- what's the difference in the 711 and 911? seems to be the same sheath, blade length, blade thickness, and handle.

according to Ragweedforge:

#911. This is an all-purpose belt knife with a 4" carbon steel blade .098" thick. I like the feel of these very much, and think they would make great hunting, camping or utility knives for those who do not insist on traditional materials. The rubber grip is just slightly smaller in diameter then the #711 listed above, and fits my average sized hand a bit better. The sheath has a swiveling belt clip that allows for different methods of carry.

I have a medium sized hand, and the 911 fits it very well, the 711 is a little bigger. Personal preference.

I ran my Craftline All-around through the X-ray machine at work and it has a 3/4 tang like the Eriksson 711 and 510 pictured above.

#1! Simply legendary on it's own right. One of my all time favorite knives, period. For $10, I wouldn't skip it... Out of your choices though the 780 Triflex is my favorite, comfortable & secure handle. Can't go wrong with any though.

i have a soft spot for my M2K...i know you didnt list it but dang it is nice...it is my only mora and it made me really want more of them..... i think the 780 will be my next purchase

That's great to know. Really boosts my confidence that this blade can take some abuse. And to think, I was on the verge of cutting open my All-around to see for myself. Glad I didn't have to sacrifice the little bugger.

In addition to the Moras check out the Marttiini M571.
Forged carbon steel. Priced in the same range as the Mora 510 which is one of my favorites.

As mentioned by others the Craftline All-Around is another good choice.

Ten

Mora knives are not bad at all for being $12 knives..........

There are much better choices you can make though.

Here is what the tangs look like, shamelessly stolen from another forumite...

The Craftline isn't in this picture.
The Craftsman is at the top.
The second one is the clipper.
The third knife is the Eriksson 711
The forth one down is the mora 2000.
And the last knife Eriksson 510.
The Craftline has a tang like the 711 and the 510.

go for laminated with wood handle, have the clipper as well and it is good but the barrel wood handle is more comfortable with a lot of whittling.

Anyone have the Buck Knives version of a Mora #780? They look alot alike, and apparently the Buck is full-tang.

11x11x, you got a pic or link to what you're talking about? That's interesting.

I think I've narrowed it down to the 780 or the 711.

I just got the 780 and 746G from bensbackwoods, I like them both quite a bit, I think I like the handle on the 746 a little more, but like both blades quite a bit.
