I have amassed most tools I need, built a plunge line grinding jig, bought lots of belts, ground some practice blades out of mild steel, bought the "how to make knifes" book, re-handled most if not all of my kitchen knifes and now its time to order some real knife steel. I will be ordering from Alpha as I am just a state away. I plan on a kitchen knife or two and a couple straight blades. Forgot to add spent lots of cash.
What steels in Carbon I assume is the way to start and what thickness and width. Probably order 4 or 5 pieces to hit there minimum $25.00 order. What is the best option for heat treating? send it out or can it be done with Mapp gas at home no forge yet?
