So Im trying to strip my TGLB and Ive used Jasco stripper in the past with great results on other blades. I coat my TGLB heavily and let it sit for 20 minutes and boom!!........almost nothing happens. The tanker gray just flaked a tad here and there.

What am I doing wrong here? Anything better than Jasco or do i need to do it several times?

The one with the most teeth and least glitter.

Edit to add actual advice:

Use citristrip, and let it sit a couple hours. Maybe longer. Recoat during that time if needed.

LMAO.

ZIP STRIP!!!! < Really :D

eta Ive had a hard time with some of mine in the past depending on the coat. Ive literally lathered them with gel strip, let sit, scrub, repeat for a few days. Eventually it worked.

The toughest coating I've ever stripped was a tanker gray TGLB...I thought I would have to take a jackhammer to budge it...

I applied multiple coats, dried off the blade well between coats, used a plastic scraper & tried to flake off as much as possible, then repeat...

IIRC, it took me about 5 applications and the better part of half a day

But that was with Jasco also, maybe another brand is better...

OTOH, I had one tanker gray coating that bubbled up & came off in nearly one piece after one application of stripper...super easy

I can't find any rhyme, reason, or pattern to which color coatings come off most easily

I've had pretty easy times with 2 sage coatings, however

I use jasco and let it sit for about 45 mins. I agree that the tanker grey was the hardest for me to strip as well

Wire wheel on a grinder is very fast! ;)

I've used Circa1858 stripper, both the gel and the spray can stuff to good effect. I have run into the odd knife that it won't even touch after two days soak time. Then a wire wheel or scotchbrite wheel work excellent, as long as you pay attention to not getting your knife too warm.

Bix Tuff Job. Some blades have been easier than others. Any number of brands have been mentioned in threads in the past. The main thing is to get a heavy duty stripper, that claims to work on epoxy.

I used the Bix on a gray ASH-1 once. Took 5 or 6 coats over a better part of a day. Still took more the next day to get it all. That was a tough coating. Used the same stuff on a black coated HD and the coating all peeled of in almost one piece with just one application after about 20 min of sitting.

Hey Snake, If you manage to get the coating off can you post some pics? I'm looking to strip a Tanker Gray TGLB myself. Thanks

Does heat or sunlight have anything to do with it? I used Strypease (sp?) on my last project and in the shade it came right off and in the sun/heat it didn't do much.
