OK, I'm confused. I've got a 2D Mag-Light in my tool bag, but I'd like a little SureFire for my glove box / console / door map pocket, etc of my truck.

I've heard really good things about the Sure-Fire M2, but I don't see why it's 2x the cost of the E2. I also stumbled across a Brinkman "copy" for $20 including batteries at Wal-Mart. At 1/3 the price of an E2, it seems pretty good.

What "small, bright "tactical" flashlight?"

Help!

Mike

I would go with the the Surefire E1. It takes only one lithium battery but it has the same light output as your 2D Maglite. I think that the reason the M2 costs more than the E2 is because of the lamp.

Ok so I dont know a thing about the different Surefires but you might want to look into the pelican lights. My 4c M10 from Pelican is 40,000 CP compared to the Maglites 6d 20,500 CP. If anyone knows the CandlePower of the Surefires please post them for me.
Hope this was of any use.

Michael,

DO NOT get a Brinkmann. At least not the Nexstar. I have had two of them and they both broke. They have the potential to be good lights, but their twist head on/off assembly is awful. If you want a good cheap light, get the Energizer Double Barrel with button switch. I have a large one and a small one. I have had the small one for a few years now, have dropped it a couple times, and use it for my pocket work light (used it today on the job, in fact). It is about 3 times brighter than the mini Mag, and costs about ten dollars. They are just super lights for the money.

By the way, I just ordered a Surefire E2 tonight. From what I hear they are outstanding lights. Can't wait to get it. I think the M2 is brighter and has some tecnical advantages only a real professional would appreciate.

I'll probably order an E1 and E2 before too long, just to see what all the fuss is about.

Here's the Brinkmann I was talking about. I don't know the name of it.

Yeah, I was unaware you really were referring to a Surefire clone in regards to lithium battery operation. That light is probably okay, as long as it doesn't have the same on/off mechanism.

Well I just ordered an E1, Leatherman Juice Xe6 and Marine Tough-Cloth from 1SKS.

I still haven't figured out what I want for a flashlight in my truck though (in addition to the 2D Mag-lite).

Mike

It doesn't sound like you need a second light in your truck. My vehicle light is also a Mag 2D.

I looked a lot at that XE6. That would be my pick for a Juice.

I own a 2D and 3D Mag, a AA Mag, an E1, E2, G2, M2 and 8NX and my recommendation would be to purchase the E2. Over at the SureFire forum
at www.surefire.com, us SureFire fanatics almost totally agree that the E2 is the best thing since sliced bread.

The E1 and the M2 have their place, but the best overall light, and it would appear the best light for you purposes of a vehicle light, is the E2.

The E2 offers 75+ (depending on batteries used) minutes of light with a maximum output of 60 lumens. This is compared to the 15 lumens of light the E1 yields, albeit for about 15 more minutes. The E1 is a great light and it would be perfect for finding things in the vehicle, but if you ever plan to take your light outside the vehicle, I assure you that you will appreciate the extra output of the E2.

Also, the E2 is considerably smaller, more lightweight, and more compact than the M2. The M2 offers two lamps to choose from, but this may be unnecessary for your purposes. Plus, although with the low output lamp the M2 offers 65 lumens, it is only for 60 minutes as opposed to the 75 minutes that you would get from the E2.

The E2 is the best small flashlight ever made and it would make the perfect choice for your vehicle light.

Brinkmans are pretty cheesey.I'd go for a Surefire 6Z combat light if I were You.I did several years ago without regrets.tom.

I upgraded from the 6-Z to an M-2. I don't think the numbers really mattered, but the high "Gee-whiz" factor of the M-2 makes it the choice for me for a duty-belt carry. I also pack an E-1 just for finding kets etc. An E-2 is also in my briefcase, great light output and a fairly high "Gee-whiz" factor help. Some tough choices, but you always end up with more than one...

I love my E2! I gave my E1 away a few month after getting the E2. I hardly ever use any other light now because the E2 is already on me! I have a Scorpion by the door I use for walking the dog if I am just wearing some pocketless shorts, but aside from that, I am always using my E2. My 3D mags (one in truck, one in the house) and all my Photon II's all suffer from neglect because of the E2. (I still use the photons for creeping around the bedroom at night so as not to wake the wife).

I bought the E1 & Leatherman to go with my 154CM EDC in my shaving kit. I like to make sure I have a "backup" in case I forget to pack any of my primary stuff. Came in handy a few times when I was travelling a lot.

I really wanted to order an E2, but I can't quite figure out what I need it for. I don't think I could comfortably carry it every-day.

Might get another one of those $20 Brinkmann lights for my drivers-side-door-map-pocket of my truck.

The M2 and E2 both have significant features, and both play key roles - very much dependant on my requirements for a task.

Your list should (IMHO) include the G2 (I'll be getting more of these) because although the M2 & E2 are carry-on-you lights, I use the G2 for glovebox, toolbox, under-the-sink, in-the-shed & in-the-1st-aid-kit.

If you require an excellent light to have with you, the E2 is my suggestion (if your requirements are tougher, the M2)
But for your car, I suggest a Yellow G2, with Lanyard and an fully stocked SC1.

Try a G2 for yourself.

I was curious about those. The price is right. It's only a little over 2x the price of the Brinkmann clone. I think I will order one for my glove box.

What does the G2 give you for ""double the price""?

The G2 is a SureFire.

It uses a bulb that has been powering the 6P for what could be decades now. The effort that has gone into designing a rubust, stable, ultra-bright, perfect, flawless beam, with a life that exceeds the clones. They are expensive to replace, but if you buy a spare, you're likely never to need it (especially if you carry it on you!)

It uses a TailCap switch that again, has proven itself reliable, simple, and effective. The good news is that I believe the 2002 G2 will have a LockOut TailCap, that I believe is backwards compatible.

It's made from Nitrolon. I an always pleased with how good the G2 feels. It's non-tacky, but a sure grip, it is warm to the touch and non-conductive, and easy to grip in the cold, wet and whilst wearing gloves.

The G2 accessories are the same as many used for other SureFire models - especially the 6P. You can get a Lanyard Kit, Rechargeable Kit, and, you can get the P61 High Output Lamp Module.

And to top it all off, SureFire Customer Service will help in the event you need it. The SureFire Discussion Forums allows you to communicated directly with the Guys at SureFire who really care about their products and the users' views on how to make better lights.

With SureFire, you can the quality products, backed up to the quality services.

Then I ask, what is cheap about the clones? IMHO, Not just the price.

Just got my yellow G2 from 1SKS.

In initial comparison (just messing around in the dark in my apartment), I think I like the Brinkmann more! And it's only $20, including batteries.

The Brinkman LX is possibly more powerful then the Surefire E2. Go to www.candlepowerforums.com and checkout the general forum. There is a comparison between the LX and the E2. For the money the LX is an EXCELLENT light. Would I buy one? I don't think so.
I just bought an E2 HA.
