Eric, the E2e is a smidge longer because of the new hex bezel. It also has a pyrex lens instead of lexan, and has a lock-out tailcap.
For Surefires, I own an E1e, E2, 6P, M2, M3, and I'm waiting on a 9AN.
My actual daily carry is the E2 with a Sebenza. (Don't want to scare anybody, do we?

)
My toolkit or pack (since I don't carry a a briefcase for work) has my DWMS with a M2 with the P61 bulb, or sometimes the M3 with the M11 bulb. I'm planning on using the 9AN for alot of the general "stuff" I've been using the M2 or M3 for, since I won't have to feed it batteries. The M3/M11 will be the "bump in the night" light to compliment the Gov't Model.
I'd say go with the E2 or E2e, depending on if you need the specific features of either light. A bonus is that a lower output lamp assembly is due out around mid-year with a 25 or 30 lumen output for 150 minutes, and a digital controlled LED bezel is also due, with a high output LED that will last a gazillion hours with a runtime of, oh, maybe next Friday. A high output lamp is rumored, and is the conjectured reason for the pyrex lens on the E2e, since it will take the higher heat produced.
With the basic E2 or E2e platform, you can compliment it with the new lamp assemblies for a complete modular system. Some of the other Surefires will also have LED bezels available, and you
can put together a light system. However, the best light to have is the one that you'll always have with you. The E2s are small and discrete that it's almost easy to remember that you don't have it with you. Until you need it, that is.
Surefire's website is going to need alot of updating soon. A fella by the name of Paul Kim is doing alot of the development with Surefire, and he's got some
great toys on his website at
www.pk-engineering.com.
Anybody need a 2000 lumen xenon HID light?
The Beast is standard lithium-driven (I can't imagine feeding that thing!), and the Hellfire is a modified rechargable version. On the far right is an E2 for comparison.
