Hello:

I have always wanted a SAK Swiss Champ. And now that I have a birthday coming up I am thinking that this is the perfect time to get one. Are there different models of this particular SAK? Is one better than others or one model an older version vs. newer version? I went onto SAK's site and went to their suggested retailers and it appears as though there are different model numbers of this knife. Thanks for any help!!! :)

Thanks!!! I want one to carry but actually just wanted to know if there are variations of the "normal" one or different models. SAK lists the knife for $88 on their site, however their suggested retailers sell it for much less so I am wondering if they are later models? Thanks

Well, i'm sure they'd be the same model. Ive always wanted the xlt lol just to be crazy but the normal one will seem to do the job.

In recent times, Vic made small changes to some implements, including some on the Swisschamp. Current models have been fitted with larger, plastic magnifying lenses, repacing the slightly smaller, glass ones. My guess is both are about equally functional. Also, I believe the backspring-mounted hook has a newly textured side, looking like either a nailfile or for lighting a match. These are minor changes, at best.

Mine is the older version Swisschamp, which I got 16 years ago and absolutely love, having over time used every blade and implement on it except for the small backspring mounted screwdriver, which fits nothing I know of. In your situation I would shop for best price and not be concerned about old or new stock.

Happy (forthcoming) Birthday!

I've carried a Victorinox Swiss Champ for the last 34 years, upgrading to later versions and giving my originals to friends, as these are living, working tools.

A belt sheath saves your pockets. After day's spent playing with your new Swiss Champ, you'll wonder how you ever managed without one.

I found the normal Swiss Champ (black scales) to be perfect, it lives on my belt with a Leatherman Supertool, Micra and a Fenix P3D.

They are an absolute joy to own, I love mine. Enjoy yours!

Good luck in your quest to find your new Swiss Champ. I've owned one for over ten years, and still carry it everyday. It's the standard red one. Has several "use" marks on the scales and implements. But this only adds character. I also have two others;one with dark green scales that I purchased at The Victorinox Store in White Plains NY. This was a gift to myself and has not been carried or used yet. The other is the Hardwood model which was a Valentines gift from the Mrs this past Feb. This model lacks the pen and straight pin on the others. I have the Zermatt pouch with steel for them but find I use the Victorinox belt hanger mostly. Kinda like using dummy cord only classier and more expensive. But not overly so, like just under ten bucks. The idea is to allow your belt to hold the weight and keeps the champ above the bottom of your pants pocket. Makes it easier to tote around. I haven't ventured to the XL Champs yet. I personally find the standard one perfect for my everyday needs. I am curious to see the subtle changes to the newer ones, but think you'll be happy either way.

ive just recently bought a swiss champ and i am wondering why i havent bought one before i got it for £50 and its well worth the money some people dont like the steel but i love it it take a razors edge and holds it quite well ive been out in the woods and its been very good i recomend it to anyone just look at my review for further info

I carry a Swiss champ plus everyday. I love that knife. What I dont understand is that why there is such a price difference between the swiss champ and the swiss champ plus. The only difference is that the plus just dont have pliers.

Minor correction: Swisschamp minus the pliers is called "Champion Plus", not "Swisschamp Plus".
