I've read good things about the Centofante IV, Delica, and Adventura. What are your opinions?

Thanks.

Welcome to the forums. Not sure about the Adventura, never heard of it. Of the three I'd say the Delica. Probably better Spydies for SD though like the Scorpius. I carried that one as a part of a pass around and it seemed like a good SD knife. Hard to go wrong with any of them. Also check out the "Knife Laws" section of the forums to make sure you aren't getting in any trouble where you live. Chances are this thread will end up in the Spyderco forums though and you'll get plenty of good advice there.

Chinook is my favourite because I like and practice bowie style knife fighting.
The Police SS is very good as a concealed weapon so long as 4+ inch blades are legal where you live.

The budget bad boy is the waved Endura.

This probably should've been posted on either the Spyderco Forum or Practical Tactical. I know you're new, just FYI. to answer the question, here's what I think:

Overall: Endura 4 Wave. Great tough EDC blade with the wave feature.
Most Chance for Damage: I think the Fully Serrated Military is a nice option here. The Police would work, but I'm always concerned about the stainles steel handles being too slippery. I'd also consider the fully serrated Endura. The Civilian should get mentioned here, but I'm not a fan of an SD knife that doesn't have a stabbing option.
Best for concealment: Delica 4 Wave, Yojimbo- there are plenty of other small Spydies that should work fine, but these 2 stand out for me.

All in all, I'm not a fan of SD knives that are "specialized" for fighting methodologies. I think knives should be able to stab AND slash/cut, not either/or. The only factors I consider in terms of "style" would be ergos, size preference, concealability, lock preference/security/strength

I am wondering how many people had successful experience in SD situations with this knives. To me 4" knife as a SD is a joke, but I may be wrong. Knife only good for offense and only if this is surprise attack, otherwise for defense it has only use to scare away attacker but it may not work - some may take it personal. To me knife is cutting tool not a weapon at all. And you may be get in trouble if you relay on 3"-4" folder knife for self-defense situation.

However, if there are some evidence when Delica for example works to defend someone, may change my opinion, otherwise it is really hard to believe. Keep in mind that SD is great PR vehicle for many knife manufacturers but it usually may have nothing to do with truth and so may mislead you into troubles.

Delica is excellent knife - no question about it, as many Spyderco knives. But if you have real thread and need something for SD this is not an answer.

Thanks, Vassili.

The Spyderco Civilian is designed purely as a self defense weapon (not killing since it does not stab very well) so you might wanna have a look at that

I'll second Chinook. Great steel (CPM420V ? someone corrects me if I'm wrong), excellent handle profile (very comfy to hold), nice size (not ridiculously too big for an EDC).

I like the waved Endura -- strong lock, easy to EDC, tough, waved, not too small, light, decent handle shape, and a heck of a knife for the money.

We can't always tote the trusty AK around, tovarisch, especially in California. But a knife and compact pepper spray are easy to carry and legal almost anywhere -- a nice combo allowing several interesting tactics.

i bought the chinook II when they were first available. it's still my favorite EDC/SD knife. i don't know about the III, but mine is CPM S30V steel.

Well, again it will be nice to see success-story. And in general it is not what you carry but what you are and Delica or even AK will not make street fighter out of sissy - intensive military training or bad neighborhood may in some cases.

Thanks, Vassili.

1: spyderco p'kal
2: delica wave
3: endura wave

p'kal and delica fits better in the pocket as the large endura.

The Adventura is an awesome knife!! It is a solid and tough knife. All the knives that you are looking at are fantastic.

My 130lb 5'10" wife carries a waved Endura every day in her pocket, no complaints about it being too big...Oh and it's very solid and sharp as I've ever seen! I got it for her at the Spyderco factory for $80, half what my Emersons cost and very well made.

Well said, Vassili. That is also my opinion. Self defense is a most serious matter, having more to do with mind set, people skills and luck than hardware, anyway.

I don't like the idea of using a knife primarily for SD either. I personally don't feel like I absolutely need a knife to protect myself (and I have on numerous occasions had my life threatened- from being shot at to fighting armed assailants). If it came down to it, I wouldn't have an issue using it either.

BTW, I doubt anyone who has used a knife successfully would be too quick to talk about it on an internet forum...

What I afraid of - Some young guy will buy this tiny little blade, extremely good for cutting... like boxes and other things, but with some very limited use in the fight and have wrong idea that he is protected now.

Common approach by humans - pay some money as a substitution to real but more complicated effort.

Only plus I can imagine is that one who think he is protected will not radiate fear which is how one human being broadcasting to another that he/she is an easy prey.

But in real fight I doubt any of this will give advantages like real weapon can - like 45 gun or something. Imagine old lady with knife against some big guy and old lady with gun against big guy - it is clear what is weapon and what is not. Knife may be as useful as any other tool - screwdriver, small hammer, frying pan... chair is actually pretty good weapon...

So I do not like idea of weaponizing knife which is best and oldest human tool.

Thanks, Vassili.
