which Sypderco to get for EDC

Well, thanks for all the great advise. Unfortunately, I didn't take any of it.

I ended up getting a karambit, which will most deffinately not be my EDC. I just couldn't help it, and it has been a while since I bought a real mean looking knife.

Thanks anyway guys, and I believe that in the future I will more that likely be buyinga Paramilitary or a Persain.

Well, a few more knives have been brought up, and I figure I will add my comments to them.

The SS ATR is nice, the ones I have handled are silky smooth. It is very nice. It is a big knife, and keep in mind that the clip is shiny and HUGE. at least half again as wide as most clips (from memory) Grip on an SS knife is sometimes an issue, but in this case, the indexing holes frovide a decent grip, along with the cobra hood and other traction groovs. I would expect the grip on this knife to inrease with gloves. The large (14mm i think) hole and the cobra hood give you plenty of opening and after that, gloves are sometimes more grippy than our hands. Overal a very nice knife, I almost bought one.

The stretch is also nice. The grip was great when I handled it. It was however cold and heavy. To me, it felt too heavy to EDC. At the time, I wanted a paramilie and was open to a stretch instead if it seemed better. Well, for me, it lost to the pmillie. It had nice action and like I said, the kraton was grippy, but someting about this knife didnt quite hold well for me. I am not saying it wont for you, and I am not saying it was uncomfortable, it just didnt do the "melt into your hand" like alot of spyders do.

Dodo is a nice knife. I belive Eric Glesser designed it as self defense blade to meet the blade length requirements of even the most strict length restriction. The ball lock allows a bunch of different grip changes withough fear of unlocking accidentally. It is also a bit slippery so whether you find it practical is a bit of a gamble...hoever dont shoot it down too quickily, make yourself work at it for a while before giving up. For me it wasnt too bad, but I have heard complaints. There are many strike points on the knife including the spine just before the blade, and the tip of the end. You can hold the kinfe spine in blade closed pretty easily to make use of these points. As for hand size, its a bit dificult to say what will fit. I have long skinny fingers and for me the hump between the ring and pinkiy fingers is a bit too far back. You might read of lock issues, I am 90% sure that this run has resolved that issue, and if you do have lockup issues, spyderco will make it right.

These knives, I have not used but have handled and this is just my take on em.

Everyone should own at least one Spydie at some time. I've been very happy with my Delica. I don't really like the feel of FRN myself, so I got the one with stainless steel handles. Beautiful knife.

Yeah, the SS Delica is real nice. Classy, tough, and will be even better when they release it with VG-10 later this year. It tends to be my backup EDC when my Millie is a little too much (only 1-2 times a year so far.......)

I really like the Dodo and the Yojimbo too. I am pretty sure that I will pick up at least one of them in the future.

I had a Jester that I was carrying in addition to my small SAK.
Then I went camping a few weeks ago and lost the Jester. :(
I like the Jester for it's small size. It went unnoticed in my pocket wherever I went, but handy when I needed a sharp, locking blade. I really like the two knurled spots on the back of the blade allowing for two grip styles. (thumb on top, or index finger along the length of the blade for fine tip control)
Ok, I have to go order another one now :)

Try the Manix. As far as I am concerned, it's the best folder Spyderco has come out with since the Military.

Some will call it "girlie" or "whimpy" but I have a small ladybug on my keyring that is always with me, cuts anything, and is small enough not to get in the way. I never have to remember to grab a knife because its on the keychain.

It comes both serrated and non.

For under $100, you can get yourself one of the carbon fiber handled VG10 bladed Delicas. That knife would do anything you asked it to, and keep on cutting.

I personally think the best of the Spyderco line is the Manix. I want one :(

They've got one almost signed up in the Passaround forums, ask Frank K if your pop could accept the knife for you.
