Alright, so again im asking for advice from everyone, the last time i did it worked out really well so i figure why not, lets try it again. So im moving to Africa in a few weeks for Drs Without Borders and I had to buy a folder to bring with me, it was on the recomended gear list and after i started researching i totally got hooked. I went from a $60-$80 budget for a single knife to god knows what now. Any money i spend is on my credit as ive exhausted all my funds with everything ive had to do/buy for my 8 month stay, but i digress. So far Ive got a Freeman necker thats like 2.5" blade i think, just got it today, its awesome, so freakin sharp out of the box that i nicked myself already, its crazy. I bought a Medford Micro Preatorian as well, and lastly I got a DPx HEFT 4 fixed blade (4" niolox blade). I figured i needed a decent sized fixed blade as im already bringing a bigA custom machete made of the leaf spring from an 89 jeep wrangler with a beachwood and barbwire handle (i love that thing, its got a special place in my heart for a couple reasons). Really Ive got everything i need, but screw it, ive totally caught the knife bug and im gonna get at least once more and right now ive got a choice between 2 pretty good little knives. A lionsteel TRE carbon fiber that has a 2.9" m390 blade and a Defiant Kumu with 7 with a 3.2" XTS-CHP blade. I dont like my folders blade any bigger than 3.5" and even thats larger than id prefer, when it gets to that size id rather it just be a fixed. Oh, im editing it here real quick cause i forgot to put that I can get the Lionsteele for $220 and the Defiant for $300, which is actually one of the most important parts of the equation.

I dig the Lionsteele cause it really has a great look to it, sleek but still decently manly looking (i know thats a dumb way to describe it, but oh well), the carbon fiber looks sick and the m390 blade is supposed to be really good, so i read. The biggest selling point for me i think is that you can remove the flipper portion and screw on a thumb stud and vic-e-versa. I love the choice there! ive only carried one knife before and it had a thumb stud and i feel like id prefer that but it might just be because ive only TRIED flippers, ive never carried one. Heres a picture of the actual knife id be buying and then a pic of the specs from knifecenter. My thoughts on the Defiant after these pics

I like the Defiant cause it has this awesome rustic kinda look to it, the blade is super stonewashed which i love cause one it hides scratches and imperfections plus it makes it look super rough/tough. The titanium handle is great in its simplicity, it looks like the TAD dauntless to me but maybe thats just cause i dont know much about knives.

So I dont know much about either company, their reputation, the reputation of their knives and of these specific knives either and theres just so much crap out there to sort thru so im wondering what yall in here think. Which i should get and why you think so? and if you have any questions for me, maybe something about my situation could sway your decision in some way, feel free to ask. thanks in advance, i appreciate everyones time they spend on this and i hope yalls weekend is going swimmingly

I am just going to be blunt here; if you are buying on credit I would not spend my money on either of these knives. There are so many good folders in the $100 - $200 price range.

You have to ask yourself why are these knives priced so high, and if what you are getting for that extra money is worth it to you. The LionSteel is priced high mostly because it is made in Italy (also it uses M390 steel and carbon fiber), and the Defient is priced high because of the titanium and bearings. Are these factors worth the higher price?

I like Lionsteel, but for under $200 I would buy another Viper Ten in Carbon Fiber over a Tre, the m390 is great edge holding steel, but I don't like the Tre's pocket clip.

The Kumu, just not my cup of tea. The Defiant7 Hyrax I do like though... Some folks will hate me for saying it, USA vs china made, but personally, I'd take a kizer ki4421a1 or a2 over a kumu, for less then $150, titanium, framelock, flipper, quality construction, plus, imo, a better design...

But of the 2, I'd definitely pick the Tre. The kumu just does nothing for me.
