Hello dear Blade Forums members. Ive been collecting knives and EDC stuff but none of them were something I paid a lot for. Since I am not in the states and in Turkey, they charge a lot for the knives and mostly the exclusives dont even excist. I decided to buy myself a Limited/Exclusive knife so I can carry it around and love more than others. Let me be honest, I dont know much about the steels, I tried to read and read but I couldnt see the end, its like studying for a hard exam and I did not have really much time because I have a friend now in the States that I can make her bring me a knife. Sorry if there are a lot like me, I know how it feels when a newbie comes around like this and I am just begging your pardon on this one. ::rolleyes:

I love Spyderco, I love Benchmade and some Bokers. Been looking into them and I found myself some pieces that I can love for the rest of my life. :D

Here is the list I made;

*Spyderco 40th Year Anniversary Sprint Run*
*Benchmade Gold Class Stryker Axis Unlimited 2016*
*Benchmade Gold Class Mini Griptillian 556-141*
*Böker Merlin Damascus*
*Blackhawk SFK MOD Limited Edition*

I have a limit of 650,700 bucks so any suggessions are appreciated.
These are the ones that I found interesting, I think a lot will say the Mini Griptillian but as I said, I dont know about steel much so I cant understand the price tag on it since its Handle material doesnt seem to cost that much, maybe its because the very limited run or something, I would love to be enlighten by the older knife collectors. I will carry the knife with me everyday so will be pleased to get some help. Thanks alot and sorry for my poor english since I am not a native English speaker, I apologize if I made your eyes bleed with my grammar.

My best from Turkey.

If you are planning on carrying this everyday and using it, I would go Grip. All those knives are top quality and beautiful but Damascus blades are a lot for show and would be better suited for a collector. That certainly doesn't mean you can't use them, they just take a bit of maintenance a don't perform as well as newer super steels. Personally, if this was going to be a user I would get a standard Grip and get some new scales for it, or look into something like a Sebenza, Hinderer, or other higher end production knives that may be a bit better for actual EDC tasks.

Welcome to the forums!

From your list I would go for the Spyderco!

Wow, thank you for the quick answer. I understand Damasteel is a little underperforming for EDC, but I am just a Dentist that will use the knife for really small things. More of a carrying around gadget that will cut really basic stuff when needed. So really Damasteel doesnt matter to me. Does that change anything in your opinion? Because to be honest, I put the Griptillian there as only an option cuz of its size is a little bit smaller and thats better for me to not have legal issues. Other than that, the looks of it really does not impress me at all and absolutely doesnt look like a 650USD knife, not saying it isnt in quality, just talking about the looks since I care equally about the quality and the look of a knife.

I already have some spydercos such as paramilitary 2 and a Benchmade mini barrage but not exclusive, the reason I am buying an exclusive or limited one is, I just want to have an exclusive or limited one that I can add into my collection and show-off to be honest.

If that changes your mind, please do inform me about what should I buy between these. Thanks, sir.

I know it is not on your list but if it were me, I d go after a Benchmade 710 gold class. Couple of them were up for sale here at the Exchange for $500-550 each IIRC.

Nice one, didnt see that one at all. Let me take a look at the Exchange section to see if I can find one. Thanks for the reply.

Its a stainless Damasteel blade!

Of the ones you listed, I'd probably go for the Mini Grip. At 175 pieces, it's the most exclusive of the LEs. The Spyderco 40th anniversary Native is a great choice also. These two are probably the best EDC choices of the options you listed.

Personally, I'd pass on all of these and buy a Chris Reeve Knives small Inkosi with natural micarta...

You really can't go wrong with the minigrip. Functionally it's superb, and that LE is just sexy. But in that price range you can start looking at Sebenzas or a Hinderer. That said? If you're really set on something with a small run, and you are okay with some smaller fixed blades? You could get a Busse too, I EDC a Busse Heavy Duty (any knives from the active duty line are great EDC, as are most of the 4" or less blades) and it does everything I need it to reliably, and Busse's tend to be pretty exclusive with one of the best warranties in the business.

Plus INFI steel (Busse's proprietary steel) is one of the toughest around. People hammer that shit through pipes

This^
Damasteel/damascus are far from ideal EDC blades. Unless they have a hard steel core like some Japanese style knives do. Dama/damascus does not hold edges very long and is hard to get back. They are primarily for looks/collection.

Here are my personal favorite 3.5" LEs/Exclusives that make amazing EDCs. 3.5" blades @ a very light weight for their size.

-Benchmade 730-1501 Carbon Fiber and M390 @4oz
-CRK Large Inkosi Carbon Fiber/Titanium and S35VN @4oz
-Benchmade 908bk-1501 Carbon Fiber and CPM-M4 @4.38oz

The Large Sebenza 21 Carbon Fiber would also be on this list. Comes in @ 3.7oz
Aslo the Rockstead Higo at the very high end of your price.

There are other good brands out there but most weight a ton.. 1-2oz heavier doesn't sound like much but it's quite a difference when you carry it everyday.. I like it when I forget I'm carrying a 3.5" blade on me that can take serious abuse. (all of the above can do this)

Of the ones you listed, I'd go with the Stryker. It's the niftiest.

If autos are legal there though, I'd get a Protech. This Newport is my favorite in your price range.

I'm with the CRK for this one. It has enough of a hilt to keep you from sliding down t the blade with sweaty, bloody, greasy hands.

Damascus isn't for the faint of heart. For a daily edc I wouldn't go that route like others have said. For the money you are looking to spend there are some amazing products out there. My holly grail right now is a direware solo.

Check out William Henry as well, you'll probably really like his stuff.

Did not expect this much replies, you guys are awesome and thanks for the suggessions.

I now understand Damascus is not for EDC but I am still into the Spyderco so much. But really thinking about the Griptilian LE too. Others are pretty much outta my mind right now. But I am trying to understand the 300USD difference between the two since the Spyderco seems a lot more quality material than the Griptilian, please correct me if I am wrong and I would love an explanation for the 300USD difference between them if its not only the low amount of produce of Benchmade but the material used on Griptilian. Thanks a lot again and would love to see some suggessions too.

Also, in my country Automatics are not legal, also big knives and fixed blades are not allowed too. I guess the size limit is around 3.5inches.

Tought about WH knives too but they are just too classy for me to EDC, I dont think I can carry that much of a beauty with me and stay calm about it. :D

The 556-141 is so expensive mainly because there are only 175 of them.

Very cool and highly functional EDC. Titanium, twill, and CPM-M4 makes a really sweet combo. For the materials its pretty pricey for what you are getting. But so are most knives much over $300 (that aren't hand fitted). Again mainly paying for the exclusivity of it. Will definitely make the majority of Benchmade collectors mouth water when you pull it out.

*edit*
Or do what Im about to do and buy a 908-161 and a 908bk-1501 or 908 and swap the blades. :D
satin/stonewash 154cm or BK CPM-M4 on a 908-161 handle.
