Recommendation? Which to keep?

Welcome!

That’s not too many so you shouldn’t feel bad, however if you decide to keep looking around these forums it’s certainly possible that you could end up with too many.

If that happens consider doing what I have done a couple of times for my wife and kid and plan to do again this Christmas for my son’s girlfriend.

Wrap up a few knives that you’re willing to part with, put them all in a box, then let your friend/relative whoever CHOOSE which ONE they like best out of the bunch. Just make sure to make the rules clear before they open the box so they aren’t disappointed when they realize they aren’t getting ALL the knives…

These are the knives she’ll get to pick from:

Also I just cut my thumb putting the Swamprat back in it’s pants. :D

That's what I call a Merry Christmas! Quite a nice selection to choose from.

Welcome! I'm a fan of downsizing. :)

I'd keep the Extrema Ratios. I've never owned one, and they've always seemed neat.
They are great. Great customer service too. If you buy a folder go for the “rough” finish handle which is normally only avaliable direct from their site, it’s grippy. The BF1 is tiny, but easy to sharpen to push cut paper (I only have a little Fallkniven DC and mini skerper strop and I’m no expert so it must be easy), holds the edge (convex). It’s tough. Apparently some think they are ugly, but I don’t need tools to look nice.

“Hmmmmm... keep?.. No. wait. Uggh...” the BF1 Tanto?! Haha it’s the best. The bright lanyard is to stop me losing it in the woods. But yeah the FKMD at the top is really good. The Bestech is a slip joint, the best U.K. legal carry knife I could find. It looks nice, but I’d rather carry the BF1, it’s super tough and can be used to break things without breaking!

I don't understand what your talking about.

You are about 80 knives under the fanactic limit. Come back when you have some knives !
Haha! Currently they are all tools for me, they all have a slightly different job. Mind you I joined this forum because nobody here in the U.K. understands why I need more than 1 knife

As a friendly heads-up, you can hit "+ Quote" on multiple posts, and then insert all of those quotes into a single post (by pushing "Insert Quotes," which appears once you've added at least one quote to your queue) to respond to each of them. It's handy. :)

Ease up on him, Skar - he’s new here. You know (we all know) what’s gonna happen.

Welcome aboard, peso.

Cheers mate. If you were to buy just 1 American made folder, which one? I’ve been looking at Benchmade, but they seem to spend time on fancy colours and looking nice, have they got a “workhorse” in the range? That purchase would be the start of collecting.

Cheers mate. Never been on a forum for anything before

I've replied to a few people individually. But if you want an Extrema Ratio folder, you have to buy direct from their site, nowhere seems to stock the "Rough" handle finish. Its very grippy indeed wet or even with blade oil spilt on it!

I let things go from time to time. Unless I have sentimental attachment or it fills a a particular role, it might get sold, traded, or given away as I acquire new gear. Over the years, this has caused my collection to evolve as my interests have evolved. It's fun to remember the journey.

I slowly moved from assisted to manual actions as prices came down and caged bearings became more common. I moved from thicker to thinner blades as trash collection policies changed and I started cutting more cardboard. I moved away from combo edges for a variety of reasons. My appreciation for Wharncliffe and Sheepsfoot blades has grown over time as well.

As far as what to get rid of here, think about your connection to each knife. If it doesn't do something special, and you don't really love it, then part with it to make room for something new.

Extrema Ratio?!

Strong start, fella!

Keep the third one from the top. Most "everyday" useful blade shape and blade length.
Yeah I treated myself to the BF1 T, and it was so well put together and nice to use. The MF2 CT 3rd from top I got because I wanted something very tough but still small. I took off the pocket clip and glass breaker and its a lot better. That and the Boker Tech tool if only two.
