ANY word on the Busse folder?
anything else you can think of (under 300 bucks and not a frame lock :D)

Buck-Strider; BG-42 if you can get one!

With significant very heavy duty construction equipment, a hydraulic press of gigantic proportions and some C4, Jerry Busse wasable to get one of his knives to fold. The trick is now, to get it to fold back!

I can't say enough about the Chinook. But I tend to prefer an upswept blade over drop (or spear) point, so that is part of it.

I will take a well-designed spyderhole placement over any thumb-stud knife. So again, the Chinook is the best. The opening hole is 14.5 mm, their biggest ever, easy to find and control. Once open, it feels like a fixed blade.

The LCC is nicer to look at though (titanium bolsters) and would be a second choice for me.

Well, I was looking at buying a Buck Strider several months back that was until I handled one in person. The knife is big and strong. However, if you want one I would recommend getting the spear point. The tanto point was dull and it was handled in a knife store, so it should have been sharp. The problem was that the grind on the front of the blade was so thick that there was no edge (at all):(

The knife had a very aggressive handle which I liked, although I don't think my jeans would. It may be considered a little large for some people but I have always carried large folders (Sifu, Cold Steel XL Voyager. It seemed well built, although I would have to bet that the TOPS magnum is more stout. I may still add a Buck Strider Tanto to the collection but the price would have to be right.

I thought you said tough? Why eliminate your best possible choices from the onset?

Already got a frame lock (2 actually, BM 750S with a Vapor 2 on the way), just lookin' for a little variety. Plus, I'm wondering how the big boogers are for EDC duty.

Wow, your post came up as I was typing this reply, centurian. I think the tip of the tanto is supposed to be dull, for prying and the like, but I like spear and drop points better anyway.

Good enough, I like a little variety as well.

For $350.00 you can get a Custom Strider AR folder. It is probably one of the toughest folders out there.

Toughest folder? I'd have to say either the Strider AR or the Strider GB. If you have a hard time finding one, go with the Buck Strider.

I have to suggest a TOPS Magnum. It is the strongest and toughest folder in the $200 retail range. It is way too big, however, to carry in your pocket.

Spydie Chinook. Smooth action, short but practical Bowie blade, curved pommel for crushing "walnuts", built like a tank. 'Nuff said.

This concept of a folder that is too big to carry in your pocket has always confused me. Why not get a fixed blade then? Why would you want a folder that needs to be carried externally?

I've never seen a TOPS Magnum, but a large folder in a sheath is still suitable for those who don't want to attract too much attention. Since the knife folds, it is more compact to store on one's person.

shane45-1911: Good question about the TOPS Magnum.

I find that, with the TOPS, I can carry a folder, with nearly all of the size, strength and "attitude" of a fixed blade, in a socially acceptable ballistic nylon pouch, on my belt. It actually looks like you are carrying a cell phone. It looks perfectly acceptable walking through a mall or in a movie theater etc. A fixed blade really can look too threatening, and out of place, in many circumstances.

In fact, as a "biker" I can even wear this bad boy in any bar, where fixed blades are not allowed.

Don't forget these

We have some on clearance right now :)

I would say that the CQD is a bit big for everyday carry.
