I voted Case.. However, I need to specify of my exact meaning is the discerning selection of older Case pocket knives with hi-carbon steel and typically with unmatched cutler quality and select materials, as well as regarding blade construction and function, and the way the end result fits and finishes.

I'd go for a custom--Ken Coats comes to mind--or the Case/Bose Norfolk.

I've had a bit of a knife orgy lately:D so I tell myself I must slow down a bit..

However:D Another Böker Large Stockman would be good in Red Bone with the 140 Jahre shield:thumbup:

After that it will be the Forum knife '10 from Queen Cutlery and I'd like a CASE/Bose Zulu in Chestnut at the year's end. Something from K.Erickson would be wonderful, but, I fear it may be a long wait:eek:

You just cannot go wrong with a nice Ken Coats or Mike Zscherny Shadow. Both under $500 they are beautifully made, one of a kind and will only increase in value.
Having said that there are many other excellent makers you could choose from. No prizes for guessing what I voted for:o

Those look great but I couldn't find any for under 1k when I looked.

Wow there are a lot of choices now! I'm still looking at them all and researching and I want to give a big THANKS to all that voted or posted so far.

My vote goes to Mooremaker. A Queen made one. You can get the same pattern in Queen.

You shouldn't have any problems finding a knife by Ken Coats for under $500 and you would be getting an awesome knife!

I would also think about Todd Davison, Mike Alsdorf, Brent Cramer and Bret Dowell.

Look into the Canal Street Canittler. I love mine. Canoe frame with three blades, all D2. Main is a nice 3" spear point with two matching coping and pen blades.

+1
I'm not familiar with all the knives mentioned, but I recently bought a very good friend a Canal Street Canittler, and when he proudly showed it to me I knew I had made a good choice. The quality and fit and finish spoke well for me of the value I place on our friendship.
Monte does custom on site slaughtering, likes things traditional and knows a good blade.
I hope he uses his every day...for the little jobs.

Handling that solid and substantial knife made me want to order one from A.G. Russell for myself right away.

I'm looking for a Case with a Wharncliffe blade. Either the swayback gent or something similar.

I really like the blade shape on the master blade. Good looking knife for sure.

EJ
Thanks.
The main blades got areal nice ring to it when it closes.
Its the only stockman I've held or seen with the two nail nics on the shield side. All the blades are flush with the backspring too.

Moore Makers are terrific, and I'll always want another one. But at the moment I hanker for this - a Queen #41 single blade copperhead in D2 and cocobolo :)

Something metaphysical in this one :D

Chance of finding one? Looking like a fat zero!! :(:(:)

I rather fancy the Canal Street small single blade trapper too

I voted Queen because I received my Case CV Swayback Jack last week and I'm waiting for a Tidioute Scout to arrive any day. I must say that I am very impressed the the Swayback Jack. The fit and finish on my sample is darn near perfect and I love the design. It has taken the spot as my second EDC along side of my Queen honey amber bone Trapper (my favorite EDC). My next Queen purchase will be the 4" Stockman and I'll have to pick up a Country Cousin as well. Of course I have had my eye on the Whittler ... love the Queen D2 blades.

Food prep hasn't seemed to bother mine but I generally rinse it off with water when I'm done. I accidentally stabbed myself in the arm with my Queen Trapper (long story) and it had blood all over it for about a half hour before I cleaned it off. Rinsed it off with water and wiped it down with a towel and it was like brand new. Wish it would have been that easy with my arm.

Will food prep stain the D2 in queen knives?

Cocobolo, delrin and Maple are brushed satin finish
Carved stagbone and Amber are polished

The polished will slowly patina to a gray.
If you cut apples and leave the juice on, it will stain/patina
(Brasso cleans it off real easily)

This Canoe (polished finish) now has an even darker patina (honest useage)
Compare the two blades

I have a One Armed Trapper in delrin (Satin finish) that I use in the kitchen all the time that does not have any change in color!

Thanks I've placed a order with Mike Alsdorf and I'm waiting to hear back from a couple others. I'm also looking to get a couple of the factory knives people have mentioned as well.

Thanks again and if anyone has anymore suggestions I'm all ears.

I like the staining on D2 - it is unlike others. I had a stag bone Queen canoe. One blade stained, the other didn't :)
