Which Type Of Knives Are You?

I'm all over, too... some of my favorites are Spydercos, specifically the Paramilitary 2 (of which I have six in different steels), and the Yojumbo, as well as straight wharncliffe blades, particularly in the Janich style, I have an Endura reground like that. I enjoy waved knives. I like reverse-S blades. I enjoy large folders. Compression locks are good for me, but I use backlocks and liner locks sometimes. I like to carry a fifth pocket knife like a Chaparral or Microtech UTX-70, and I like slipjoints and traditionals, but I only have a few and want to get more into them. Not as into fixed blades as I'd like to be because I can't carry 'em much. I enjoy knives from pre-1950 that are still being made now, like the Opinel, Douk-Douk, Mercator, MAM and Higonokami. Have at least one of all of those, great knives for a good price. Also, Ontario is a good company I like, particularly the RAT and SP lines as well as Mora, big Mora fan. Always carry a SAK or Leatherman.

I now have a wave on that Yojumbo, as well as on the Lil Matriarch and a satin Yojumbo.

Careful, fella, or we'll spill your dirty little secret.

How's that knifeaholic recovery plan coming?

🤣
The fact that I’m here to see you hovering overhead should answer that question!
Just one more. Really just one more. Then of course a spare for it…

Honestly I’ll be ok with the pocket knife thing just need a good woods knife and sit back and enjoy and live vicariously thru you all!

I like thin grinds, flowing lines, and blades and points angled slightly down from a neutral handle. I like all handle materials I've tried, though they all have their own merits. Design trumps materials, but I like generally like a good heat treatment on tough steels.

Sure. You've got me convinced. Now you just have to look in the mirror and practice...

☺️

There are so many knives on the market, I feel I can be picky and still have plenty to choose from.
I try not to exceed CRK-level prices (with exceptions), avoid Chinese made, and blacked out tactical knives. Not an OTF and compression lock fan. I don't want my tools to be any kind of art, functional or not.

I like new super steels, thinner blade stocks, hollow grinds for urban EDC and convex grinds for outdoor use, patina, back locks, titanium frame locks and prefer natural handle materials/inlays to resins.
Want to be able to do scale swaps on G10 and FRN models. PB washers over ball bearings (no ZT for me :-( ).

I ended up with a few favorites from my quadrinity - Victorinox/CRK/Spyderco/Bark River.

Started off with simple Swiss Army knives (mostly have an old Victorinox Spartan on me these days), then got bitten by the Spydie bug, then the BM butterfly bug, and Ontario Rats and ESEEs for fixed blades. Wifey has a whole kitchen full of Zwilling and Victorinox stuff too. Don't really follow any trends; there are plenty of newer Spyderco and Benchmade models that I don't like at all, and ESEEs that I don't really care for too. I guess I just get what I like from a few regular brands.

I don’t care what others like or what’s popular, I just like what I like. Sometimes what I like is popular and sometimes what is popular I hate.
I prefer to carry a SAK, a small to medium fixed blade, and a basic lockback folding knife. I want the fixed blades to be tough, I want the folder to be a slicer, and I want the SAK to do what SAK’s do. I don’t like fancy and I don’t like ridiculously expensive, but I do like quality. I normally buy American made because I tend to lean towards their offerings, but I have also found that I really enjoy a lot of knives manufactured in Taiwan. I pretty much stick to ESEE, BK&T, Buck, and Spyderco for my needs, but I do have other brands that I like, such as LT Wright and Battle Horse. Anyway, that’s my two cents.

Copy paste from my recent post looking for my going-to-be "grail" but more refined.

I buy knives with mind set of "What people of a country would go buy at a shop, inexpensive locally made, in a local shop and use it for the rest of their knife without thinking twice". The idea sparked to me when I visited Europe and want to get some souvenir. So they usually are bought from their country with a few exception. Most of the time, these things are always down to the country iconics, like Opinel, Mercator, Morakniv, etc. I wonder why 🤔.

Other than that, I have a few different SAK, and one is my all time EDC, which was also my 1st pocket knife. For pliers base multi-tools, a Leatherman Wingman as everyday backpack tool, and a Gerber original MP from a friend (purely for collection). Soviet made MPL-50 spade for camping.
I use cheap chinese modern as beaters, currently only a QSP and a Kizer, brands that don't copy much.
Incidentally, I have a variety of different steels, only a few with same steel.
Price range is less than 50 CAD.
