Which Verizon Phone?

Hey all,

So very possibly upgrading my phone in the near future and I'm not sure what to get. Any suggestions or phones to stay away from?

Are you going to be using a data package with it or just a phone? I love my Motorola Q, but they are discontinued, but I found several new ones on the Bay and bought them as backups. It backs up to my computer's outlook and maintains the database. I have already loaded the database into the new one even though it is not activated. My daughter likes her Blackberry storm. But I have no experience with it.

I'm still using an old LG VX8100 and there's nothing new out there that I want. I don't text or use the internet on my phone and this thing is tough as nails.

I'd like to go with a phone with unlimited data for random net surfing and what not. The Storm looks nice (new and shiny!) but it has kinda negative reviews on Verizon's site (3 of 5 stars). LG Enve Touch has good feedback though O.o

Pretty much all my friends have a Storm, and I hear nothing but good things about it (that is after they get used to Blackberry's learning curve if it was there first Blackberry).

I have the LG Dare, and have had it for a long time. It's alright. Whenever you receive a message while sending one, the phone jams and you have to cancel, and the phone seems to almost freeze for a few seconds. Other times, if you receive two messages at once (or any time two things happen at the same moment, i.e. start the camera and receive a message), the phone just restarts. While this isn't a big deal, they didn't spell "February" right on the charging screen, which might show they didn't give a lot of attention during the final screenings. But, I felt the urge to email Verizon and LG anyways because it doesn't look to good.

ETA: Also, the metal siding tarnishes pretty quick, so keep the plastic on as long as you can. It gives the feeling that makes you want to cringe when you touch it

blackberrys in general are probably more versitile than the lg, which does have a lot going for it.

i like the "clicky" screen on the storm, it gives good tactile feedback. whereas other touchscreens only vibrate, which i find annoying.

this is my first blackberry, and the learning curve was not too bad. however most other people i know with blackberrys prefer the regular kind with the keyboards. i like the bigger screen and am willing to accept im a little bit slower typing messages.

and they are extremely addictive....

Stay away from the Samsung Sway if you text a lot, it lags horribly.

I'm going to get my enV Touch Friday

Do you live near a Verizon store? Your best bet is to just go and look at them in person to see what you like. While pretty much everyone likes the "clickiness" seen with the Storm, you might not unless you have actually used it. My ex got one as soon as they came out and decided she didnt like it and went back to the pearl. Don't let the stars bring you down. Also, check out websites like CNET (RIP Jamies Kim), they do some great reviews.

I'm going to be going to a Verizon store to look at and purchase the phone, but as with all electronics, you can get a feel for them with your first impression - but there could be some quirks that you just wouldn't be able to detect unless you've had one for a while. For example, a lot of people say the Storm tends to freeze up a lot and what not.

I wouldn't say it freezes a lot, but it does happen. the new software has been much better.

it is recommended that you take the battery out while the phone is on (like a hard shut down) about once a month. this sort of clears the cobwebs.

like any complicated device, it can be quircky. i have mine set to vibrate normally, and sometimes it will vibrate for no reason. haven't figured that one out yet.

if you use stuff like facebook, the storm interacts and connects your contacts with facebook contacts. kinda cool, their profile photo shows up when they call.

Good point...I was going to try and explain the facebook thing too because its a good feature but couldn't get it to words :p

How's the Storm as far as loading apps go? In the reviews some people say it can take a bit of time when launching =\

Thanks for all the help guys, appreciate the input :)

i only have facebook loaded, and i dont recall it being slow. granted, the app isn't the same as being on an actual computer, but you can also connect to the site via the web.

it is very slow when powering up. it normally takes a couple minutes to reboot.

it will also interact well with itunes and the blackberry desktop program is pretty useful.

I was recently stuck in a duel between the Blackberry Storms Whip app and the iPhones light saber app...luckily I got out before it got ugly

While the Whip app was by no means a large one, it downloaded quite fast

I love my Samsung Glyd. The old one was complete and utter crap, but the new ones with the software update, IMO are better than the Dare.

I have a LG Voyager. It's a great texting phone, has a pretty good camera on it, a Micro-SD slot, a music player, browser, TV, etc.

I mainly got it for the qwerty keyboard; but, I use the VZ Navigator, email, and music player.

My new office phone will be a Blackberry Curve. My boss likes his; but, I think he primarily uses it for email, which is what I'll mainly use it for.

I got an EnV2. So far it's been a good phone. I text a lot so I had to have something with a fullsized keyboard. The touch screens are neat but they get to lookin pretty nasty after a while with finger grease and scratches and such. So I stayed away from those. I tend to keep a phone for about three or four years and a touch screen would be down right messed up after that long with me LOL.
